HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY
DINNER AT HOME

Always love staying home on Valentines Day. If you ask me, this is the worst day of the year to go out for dinner.  We like to stay home and enjoy our family and some good food.  My daughter requested a Pappardelle Pasta dish that we all love.  This dish is a far cry from one of the best pasta dishes I have ever eaten at Mario Batali's restaurant Babbo in New York, but it does deliver big flavor.   It is simply Mushrooms, Butter, Sage, Lemon Juice, Salt and Pepper.  We use meaty Hamakua Mushrooms from The Big Island of Hawaii.  I kicked up the dinner with an appetizer of Foie Gras served with toasted bread and sautéed Apples.  Served a small Roasted Beet Salad with Pistachios and Balsamic Dressing.  Ended the dinner with Chocolate Cupcakes from Cake Couture.  My little "X" broke on the ride home but the cupcakes were delicious.  So lucky to have two beautiful Valentines that I love with all of my heart.

PAPPARDELLE PASTA WITH MUSHROOMS AND SAGE BUTTER SAUCE

PAPPARDELLE PASTA

DINNER AT HOME

This dish inspired by Molto Mario's restaurant called Babbo in New York is becoming a family favorite.  I sauteed garlic, shallots in butter and then add fresh sage to infuse the butter with flavor. Add the mushrooms and cook until tender.  Toss in the Pappardelle pasta and coat well.  Added some fresh diced tomato for color.  This simple dish really satisfies and is a TASTE OF HAWAII FAVORITE!

IMARI JAPANESE RESTAURANT - HILTON WAIKOLOA VILLAGE

IMARI JAPANESE RESTAURANT
HILTON WAIKOLOA RESORT
BIG ISLAND OF HAWAII

Imari Japanese Restaurant looks beautiful from the outside.  Tranquil ponds filled with Koi fish surround the Japanese architecture.  As you enter you find a somewhat dated space that is warm and kind of dark.  You can choose eating at the Sushi Bar, Teppanyaki (where the cook at your table) or the standard menu restaurant.  We opted for the standard Japanese menu and were seated next to open windows near the back of the restaurant.  I tried the Abalone Appetizer.  It was like 19 bucks for a few very thin slices.  The Abalone was delicious.  Farm raised right there in Kona.  Served with Seaweed and Sweet Pickled Cucumbers.  Just wish there was more Abalone in the dish for that price.  For my entree, I ordered the Scallops with local Mushrooms.  The scallops were cooked perfectly but the dish was a bit bland and poorly plated.  I really liked the mushrooms and wish there would have been more of them.  My friend enjoyed a Soft Shell Crab and some Spicy Tuna Sushi.  The Sushi was good and he liked the crab.  The service was excellent, food was good, but again the prices were a bit high.
