When you finish a morning round of golf on the Plantation Course at Kapalua the main restaurant is closed until 5:00 so you can enjoy a beverage and light meal in the bar overlooking the 18th hole. The views of golfers coming down 18 is amazing and its fun to watch people hit shots to the 18th green. Service was good here but when it gets busy the single bartender/server can get a bit backed up. We tried the Beef Queso and after a few bites sent it back. So soupy and tasteless. Had to be the worst Queso ever on this blog. How you can mess up melted cheese with ground beef is amazing to me. The Tempura California Roll was better than I thought. My first thought was why would they deep fry sushi but after tasting it I found it to be very tasty. I loved the Plantation Burger ($18). The waiter asked if I would like Salad or Fries and I said Salad. When he offered a Caesar Salad in place of the bitter greens I was very happy and went for the Caesar which was good. Burger was great but c'mon....eighteen bucks?

Kapalua, Maui is one of my favorite places on earth and The Plantation House is one of my favorite places to enjoy breakfast while in Kapalua. The views of the 1st and 18th hole at the Kapalua Plantation Course are amazing with the deep blue ocean as your backdrop. This is heaven on earth to me and not many places can top it. Having a nice breakfast prior to a round of golf is mandatory here. While I am not a big breakfast eater, I would eat here every single day if I had the opportunity. The service is slow at times when it gets a little busy but the employees are friendly and try to do their best. When you have a setting and view like this you can let the little things go by. Key is to "slow down" relax and remember you are in Kapalua and things should be a little slower. I could literally sit here all day and enjoy the view, people watching, food and beverages. On this morning I went for the Beef Fajita ($18) and loved it. A sizzling platter of beef, onions and peppers served with Black Beans, two Eggs and warm corn tortillas and salsa. These little Breakfast Tacos are terrific and one of my favorite breakfasts ever. On the second day I tried the Traditional Eggs Benedict and also liked them very much. My friends ordered the Meat Lovers ($16) and Kula Spinach ($15) Omelets and seemed to like them. You could serve me a scoop of rice and water here and I would be happy. The perfect ambiance and view for me.

Pulled off somewhat of a coup to get into The Plantation House Restaurant during the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. The Restaurant is closed to the public during the golf tournament and it requires "proper credentials" to gain access. I don't want to give out my covert secrets on how we scored the best table in the restaurant overlooking the First Tee Box and Opening Ceremony. Lets just say look like you belong and act like you own the place :). With the best table in the house secured we started the morning with a little Champagne and Bloody Mary's. This was for "effect" only so we looked comfortable and like we belong. Enjoyed the morning watching dignitaries from Hyundai and Golf Volunteers pose with the Tournament Trophy. What the heck I said and we went down and took photos with the trophy. Another covert secret that I cannot reveal. Our waitress was very friendly and as the restaurant filled up was so busy that she really did not seem to realize that we were seated at the table for several hours. Signs on the tables say there is a 90 minute limit at tables during the tournament. We ordered breakfast as hula dancers graced the First Tee Box and the legendary Hawaii Recording Artist Willy K performed "Over the Rainbow" as recored by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. It was beautiful and accompanied by a elegant Hula performance. I ordered up Beef Fajitas ($18) and was happy to see the huge portion of meat with beans, eggs and salsa. This was really good stuff and a great way to fill me up before being out on the course for 8 hours. Loved the Black Beans with lots of onions and the beef was tender and flavorful. Yummy. My friend ordered Lox and Bagel ($15) and he was amazed with the portion and taste. Loved it but could not finish it. We finished breakfast and watched the golfers tee off on the first hole. Another hour passed and the restaurant was filled to capacity with people standing over our table watching the view. We ordered another round of drinks and simply took in the moment at Kapalua. Not to our surprise a gracious Manager came to our table and very politely asked if we could give up our table as the President of Hyundai had reserved the table for his group. No problem we said, but can we stay for one more round. "Of course" she said and we did.
