Started our New Year with a delicious meal at Doraku Waikiki.  My Daughter is leaving back to college and requested Sushi for our family dinner together.  We have not been eating a lot of Sushi lately because we are trying to stay low carb.  Good thing about Doraku is they have lots of menu items that are low carb.  Heck they even offer several Sushi Rolls without rice.  Everything was good here but the star of the dinner was the Hamachi Kama.  Probably the best one we have ever eaten.  The fish collar was meaty, moist and delicious.  If you have not tried Hamachi Kama, order it at Doraku.  You will not be disappointed.  The Miso Butterfish was good but my Wife thought it was way over sauced.  This fish melts in your mouth and is like eating candy.  The Asari Clam Sakamushi has a spicy broth that I love.  I was literally drinking it and putting on everything, even the Sushi.  While the Clams are tiny, the broth makes the dish.  We all love the Hamachi Carpaccio but this dish was soaking in Ponzu Sauce.  Still good but would prefer less sauce so everything doesn't get soaked.  The Emperor Roll with no rice is a great option to stay low carb.  You really don't miss the rice and the crab flavor shines through.  The Beef Fried Rice is cooked table side and the rice gets a crunchy lightly burned texture that is delicious.  My Daughter loves the Tempura Brownie and our entire table devoured it.  Lightly battered and fried Brownie served with Vanilla Ice Cream.  You cannot go wrong at Doraku.  Probably one of our favorite Sushi restaurants in Hawaii.  Always leave satisfied, full and happy.  What a great way to start the New Year!

DORAKU SUSHI TAKEOUT

DORAKU SUSHI TAKEOUT #5
DINNER AT HOME

Craving Sushi and not wanting to go out wearing masks, social distancing and worrying about COVID19 so we ordered up the Dorkaku Sushi for delivery.  This is our fifth order from Doraku since March so I would say we are fans of this restaurant. Ordered most of our favorites and then added Steamed Clams to this order too.  The food arrived right on time but from the outset this order did not seem like the ones we have had in the past.  The color of the Sushi was just not there.  We noticed most of the Ahi in the Sushi was chemical treated to make it appear red and fresh.  It was not fresh.  In fact this Sushi sucked.  We ate 1/3 of what we usually eat because the flavors that we have come to love from Doraku were just not there.  With the exception of the Clams and Hamachi Kama this Sushi sucked.  While the Hamachi Kama was delicious as always, they did forget to provide the sauce for it.  Entire family was disappointed as our last takeout order was great.  Decided there would be no sixth visit to Doraku while under quarantine.  We will try another Sushi restaurant next time.

DORAKU TAKE OUT

DORAKU
DINNER AT HOME

I had reservations at Morimoto Asia for my Wife's birthday but after a day of sightseeing with family and a big lunch she asked me to cancel our reservation so we could stay home.  Without her knowing, I jumped on BiteSquad and ordered Sushi from Doraku to be delivered promptly at 7PM.  Doraku and BiteSquad delivered on time and the food was great.  I just had to plate the dishes so they were not served in the plastic containers.  Actually was a great evening followed by an old movie.

Had to put up another post on Doraku on Kapiolani.  Once again a great meal that left us all very full and very happy.  Doraku which translated means the road or path to pleasure was exactly that.  Pure pleasure enjoying some of my favorite foods.  Always start with the Hamachi Carpaccio ($13.50)  The thin slices of fish with slices of Jalapeño and Red and Green Onion is so light and literally melts in your mouth.  The Ponzu Sauce and Chili Oil add layers of flavor that make this dish disappear in seconds.  Next up is one of my favorite dishes.  Hamachi Kama ($15.95) which is the fish cheek grilled and served with Ponzu Sauce and Chili Daikon Radish.  We pour the Ponzu Sauce over the cheek and spread the Radish over it too.  Then dig into the firm white fish that is so delicious.  The crispy skin adds more flavor and texture.  There is quite a bit of fish on the bone.   More than you would expect.  So delicious.  Yummy!!!!  The Pork Belly Yaki Soba ($11.95) with cubes of Pork Belly, Soba Noodles, Cabbage, Mushrooms and soft boiled egg was delicious.  Loved the egg over the noodles.  My Daughter loved the Miso Soup which was served with the Pork Belly Yaki Soba as a lunch entree.  The God of Fire Roll ($12.50) is one of my favorite sushi rolls with its spicy Ahi, Jalapeño and Habanero Tobiko.  Great flavors and a nice kick of heat.  The Shogun Roll ($13.50) was so fresh and delicious that my eyes rolled with each bite.  The Crab and Avocado with a hint of crispy garlic is amazing.  I could eat this every single day.  The Brownie Tempura ($7.50) is nice but I don't like fried brownies.  Would prefer a non-Tempura Brownie but the ice cream was delicious.  All of my reviews of Doraku are the same.  Great food and one of my favorite places to eat.  Great service on this day from Stephanie who was busy with a lot of tables but always had time to check on us, smile and make sure we were happy.
