HOTEL 43 - BOISE, IDAHO

HOTEL 43
BOISE, IDAHO

Highly recommend Hotel 43 in Boise. The staff was very courteous and the location was perfect. You can walk to downtown and Boise State University from the hotel.  43 stands for the 43rd State.

LATE NIGHT DINING - BOISE, IDAHO

LATE NIGHT DINING
BOISE, IDAHO

Downtown Boise is filled with restaurants, bars, nightclubs and food carts that serve the hungry during the wee hours. We just had to try one of the food carts before going back to the hotel. Chris opted for the hot dog. I asked the guy behind the counter for the best thing on his menu. He recommended the Philly Cheese Steak. Wish I would have got the hot dog. I ate less than half of the cheese steak and gave the rest to a wasted brother standing next to me. He was happy.

RED FEATHER LOUNGE - BOISE, IDAHO

RED FEATHER LOUNGE
BOISE, IDAHO

We stumbled into the Red Feather Lounge and found two chairs at the bar. The place was crowded and lively. Once again we had great service by the bartender. We met a nice couple that kept us in conversation as we enjoyed a glass of wine and cocktails. I ordered a smoked Trout appetizer ($10). This was simply delicious. Smoked trout, red onion, garlic, capers, horseradish with a flat bread. Put it all together on the bread and you have a meal. I could not finish half of the trout.  Nice portion and great price. Chris enjoyed the Red Feather Burger ($8.50) and a house salad ($5). I didn't take a picture, but know it was great because Chris knocked the thing down in minutes. Chris was on a quest to try an Idaho baked potato. The bartender checked with the kitchen and only could come up with a side of fries ($4). I also enjoyed a very nice bowl of French Onion Soup for $5. What a great place with low prices. Highly recommend this place for cocktails and dinner or pupu's.

THE PIPER PUB AND GRILL - BOISE, IDAHO

THE PIPER PUB AND GRILL
BOISE, IDAHO

Arrived in Boise, Idaho to get a text from my friend Chris. He was having a cold beer and watching football at the Piper Pub. I checked into the hotel and asked for directions. The Pub was just a few blocks away. I was starving after the long flight from Hawaii so we ordered up some grub. We ordered the Piper Sliders ($7.99). This was four mini cheeseburgers that were actually large. Served with a huge portion of fries. This could serve 2-3 people and is only $8. Fantastic!. The Black Bean and Chicken Nachos ($9.49) was a huge plate of Nachos that we barely put a dent in. Chris went for a Herb Sausage Pasta ($9.99) that he said was great. Huge portions, low prices and cold beer plus great service from the bartender. The Piper Pub is a great place to eat and drink.

BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL - FIELD PASSES

FIELD PASSES
BOISE STATE VS HAWAII

This is what two old guys looked like when we received a text message the night before the game. Text said that we had two field passes. I had the person sitting next to us snap a picture of our huge smiles. We were totally stoked to learn that we would be on the blue turf with the Warrior Football team. The passes were fantastic. Full access to the Warrior bench and field. This was a once in a lifetime experience that is priceless.

CHANDLER'S STEAK HOUSE - BOISE, IDAHO

CHANDLER'S STEAK HOUSE
BOISE, IDAHO

Our hotel in Boise had a steak house called Chandler's. We walked by each night and saw that the place was absolutely packed every night. I tried to just get into the bar section one evening and could not get close to getting a drink. After asking some locals about the place we found that it was one of the best restaurants in Boise. With that in our minds, we made a reservation to eat here after the Boise/Hawaii football game. We arrived to find the place packed but were able to grab a table in the lounge before being seated. The bartender was great and gave us good service despite being slammed. We transferred to our table and were quickly greeted and given the menu. Pretty standard steak house menu similar to a Ruth Chris or Morton's. We ordered a salad, baked potato and a petit filet. The Caesar Salad was good but a bit too mayo taste for me. My steak was cooked to perfection and delicious. At $28 bucks it was a bit expensive for 6 ounces. The Idaho Baked Potato was good but I thought being in Idaho it would be better. I guess a potato is a potato. I would recommend Chandler's and will return if we ever visit Boise again.

GOLDY'S BREAKFAST BISTRO - BOISE, IDAHO

GOLDY'S BREAKFAST BISTRO
BOISE, IDAHO

When we asked locals where to eat in Boise, they all said Goldy's. Most said to go there but get ready to wait an hour for a seat. No way we were going to wait an hour we said. Then came some beers on Friday night and a commitment to go to Goldy's before the Boise State vs Hawaii football game. We arrived around 7:30 am and found that the wait was not an hour. Rather 45 minutes. No problem we said. We signed in and took a nice walk down the street to the State Capitol. The Capitol was beautiful in the morning. Very peaceful. Goldy's provides free coffee outside and the people line up despite the cold and rain. We were greeted by a lovely host and owner named Wanda. Wanda keeps the place moving and makes everyone feel at home. The menu features a variety of Eggs Benedict dishes that they call Eggs Benny. You can get a half order (which is huge) for around $5 and a full order for $7 to $10 bucks. Totally worth the price. I tried the Eggs Benny with ham, hollandaise and a large slice of tomato sandwiched between the eggs and muffin. Think they called this the Eggs Blackstone. Hands down the best Eggs Benedict I have ever tasted. I didn't think that I could finish a full order but it was so good that I devoured it all. To compliment by Eggs Benny I ordered a Mimosa with no orange juice.  This was the best Mimosa I ever had. They served up what looked like a half bottle of champagne in a huge water goblet. See photo above. The champagne was filled to almost the top. Suffice to say I felt very good going to the football game. My friend had an egg dish that was filled with other things. Can't remember the name of it or what was in it because I was totally consumed by my Eggs Benny and champagne. Goldy's is a must eat and TASTE OF HAWAII FAVORITE.

BOISE STATE TAILGATE PARTY - BOISE, IDAHO

BOISE QUARTERBACK KELLAN MOORE

Boise fans really know how to tailgate and have a good time. They love their Bronco's but also love a party. The fans were courteous, generous and fun. One of the best crowds I have ever encountered at a football game. We walked around the stadium and were offered beer, drinks and food. People embraced us and made us feel very comfortable. What a great way to start the day. My sincere appreciation goes out to all the Boise fans who made us feel at home. You are all invited to my tailgate next time we play Boise State at Aloha Stadium.

BRONCO STADIUM HALFTIME - THE BOISE FRY COMPANY

THE BOISE FRY COMPANY
BRONCO STADIUM
HALFTIME LUNCH

We enjoyed a Bison Burger with purple Idaho french fries for lunch. This is a famous local food place that has a truck in the inside of the Stadium behind the scoreboard. The burger was just o.k. They used the purple type lettuce that I don't like and plopped a bunch of mayo on the thing. Will get the hot dog next time. The fries were good though.

Seeing the Blue "Smurf Turf" for the first time was an awesome experience. The field is legendary in college sports. We entered the Stadium on the Friday before the game for a field tour. The first thing you notice is the field is really blue. I mean blue..blue. Just beautiful. If I were a player, I would be inspired to play hard here. My friend Chris could not hold himself back and had to run some plays on the field.  Video below.

HAWAII VS BOISE STATE - GAME DAY

HAWAII VS BOISE STATE
BOISE, IDAHO

Never thought that I would travel to Boise, Idaho for a football game.  Well I did and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Boise is a great city. The people are fantastic and the football is top notch. Forget about the spanking Boise put on my Warriors 42-7. The game sucked but we had the absolute best seats in the house. Sideline passes with the team. This was an amazing day. Being on the Blue Smurf Turf plus being on the field made this an experience that I will never forget. Having field passes gives you direct access to everything on the field. Sports Announcers, players, coaches and everything else you can imagine. It was great to see the players coming off the field, talking, yelling and sometimes arguing. Our team did not seem to have the spirit on this day.  The fans at Boise are great. They are into the game and cheer from start to finish. No trash talking here. Just a deep respect for their team, the game and a good party. Even the security staff was gracious while on the field. We met ESPN announcers, sports writers, coaches and players. I'll I can say is WOW.....This was off the charts fun and a true blessing. I have a huge respect for the Boise fans, team and city. Love Boise, Idaho!
