Disappointed on this visit to La Vie as the food did not live up to the price. Service was excellent with each dish being explained in detail by the staff. Not happy that you can only order pre-fix menus here and not individual menu items. They do allow you to pick and choose for a minimum of $139 per person. I enjoyed some nice wines but after hearing the Sommelier serving the table next to me, I will definitely get the wine pairing next time just to listen to his great descriptions and stories of each wine. I love Foie Gras and they served a nice large piece but covered it in Macadamia Nuts. How you can do this to Foie Gras is beyond me. Why would you want to mask the flavor of the duck with nuts? Seems like every dish here included extra spices or ingredients that did not allow the true taste of the main ingredient to shine through. The Hot Smoked Kona Kampachi was good, but this is something you don't want a large piece of. Too much of a good thing ruined this dish. Thought this would be a nice two or three bite appetizer. The Salsa overpowered the Veal not allowing the full flavor of the Veal to be enjoyed. The Duck was also covered with spices that I did not like and covered the flavor of the Duck. Neither one of us completed these two dishes. Oh..how I wish this would have been better because we have loved meals at La Vie in the past.
