Upon our arrival at the Lodge at Koele we stopped for lunch in the Great Hall before going to our room. The Terrace Dining room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week. The menu is pretty simple with light meals, soups and salads. I saw House Made Salt and Pepper Chips ($8) on the menu and ordered them up for the table. These chips were fantastic. Super crispy and a bit browned the way I like them. Served with a delicious Maui Onion dip. Me and my friend went for the Venison Chili ($18). Served with Jasmine Rice and a slice of garlic bread. The chili was just ok. The venison did not have much flavor. Kind of disappointing for 18 smacks. The Mahi Mahi BLT Wrap ($24) was served with a really good Clam Chowder. The Wrap was good my wife said. Our friend loved the Maui Onion Soup ($13). While this meal was a bit expensive, the service was excellent.

Cannot say enough good things about the Four Seasons Lodge at Koele on the Island of Lanai. The guest rooms did not disappoint. Simply furnished yet elegant with a country feel. Loved the large windows overlooking the lanai and out to the hills. Feels like coming home when you enter your room. The bed was big and so soft. Slept very good here. Very quiet. Island Air had some really good deals for travel between Honolulu and Lanai. This regional carrier serves airports on all major Hawaiian Islands. They fly smaller turboprop Dash 8 airplanes that fly at lower altitudes than jets do. Flying lower provides passengers with spectacular views of Hawaii's natural beauty, pristine coastlines and majestic mountains. I like the fact that Island Air is in a small terminal next to the main airport terminal in Honolulu. The terminal has a large parking lot directly in front of the check in and baggage claim areas. This makes getting in and out very fast and easy. You can check your bags and clear security here in just a few minutes. Boarding is also a breeze. With just 37 seats, the plane boards faster than the larger jets and you are in the air without any hassles. Once aboard you are greeted by a flight attendant who explains emergency procedures and also provides complimentary Maui grown coffee or water. The Dash 8 has a pilot and co-pilot on board. Our trip to Lanai was less than 20 minutes. The flight was smooth and quiet. Once on Lanai we walked down the steps and had our baggage is less than five minutes.

I have been blessed to stay at some of the finest resorts in Hawaii. Most of them have been on or near the ocean. The Lodge at Koele has no ocean or a beach. It is set in the middle of Lanai amidst large Cook Pines and Eucalyptus trees. The hotel is a throwback to Old Hawaii with a Plantation feel that takes you out of the city and into an Island paradise. From the time you check in until the time you reluctantly leave there is a peace that fills your soul here. This is by far one of my favorite places to visit and stay in Hawaii. If you are looking for a hula show with Mai Tai's and hundreds of tourists this is not the place for you. If you want to kick back, chill out and be pampered in a beautiful natural setting with down to earth people who seem to genuinely care about your stay, then The Lodge at Koele is the place for you. You know this place is special when you drive up to the entrance and are greeted by a Conk Shell salute and then are presented with a Kukui Nut Lei, cold towel and fresh chilled juice. No going to the front desk here. The staff escorts you to the Great Hall where your check in is done at a comfortable table. Your key is brought to your table with personalized service. The service here is exceptional with most employees knowing you by name within 24 hours. The employees are the essence of Lanai. Most have been working at the hotel for many years. We met several that opened the hotel over 20 years ago. They are still there and seem to love it. Once you enter the Great Hall, you are naturally drawn to the open doors that lead to the garden. Once outside you will experience complete calm as you stroll through the grounds and take in the smells of nature and natural beauty of Lanai. You will find more on the Lodge guest rooms and dining on this blog. The Lodge at Koele is a gem in Hawaii. This is the place I want to visit over and over again. My entire family is already wanting to plan a return visit.
