DINNER AT HOME

We hosted a business dinner for some people I work with from the mainland.  They were tested for COVID-19 so rather than go out and have to be separated due to our 5 people maximum rule at restaurants, we hosted them on our lanai.  Prepared some of our favorite appetizers and my favorite Steak and Crab dinner.  Oh this was so good especially since we enjoyed with some nice vino.

Family was craving a little Sushi so I went on the Bite Squad app and ordered for pick up at the restaurant.  This is a great way to order takeout and you avoid all of the fees, delivery charge and tip.  Hana serves quality Sushi at a reasonable price.  It is becoming one of our "go to" Sushi spots.

COSTCO CHICKEN STREET TACOS

DINNER AT HOME

Strange but I was not in a cooking mood on a Sunday.  My Wife texted me from Costco and asked if I wanted to try this Chicken Street Taco Kit.  I said sure and she brought it home.  Within minutes we were eating Tacos.  We simply heated up the Chicken, warmed the Tortillas and then assembled the Tacos.  I placed the Cabbage on the bottom, then the Chicken, Cheese Salsa and Cilantro Lime Crema.  Added my own Onion, Cilantro and Hot Sauce.  We were very surprised that these Tacos were really good.  The Chicken actually had better flavor than most Mexican Restaurants in Honolulu.  My only complaint was there was not enough Cheese and Cabbage.  Other than that I would recommend this Taco Kit for a easy and fast Taco fix.  Salsa and Crema are good too!

I have been following Allegrini Mozzarella on Instagram for a couple of months.  I like the fact that they are doing everything possible to keep their business open and operating during COVID-19.  I see an owner who truly cares about their food, quality and customer service and just had to stop in to try the food.  Very impressed to see the Owner is 100% hands-on and working all aspects of the business.  He is the hostess, chef, bus person, waiter and probably even does the dishes.  Now he does have help but he hops between the kitchen and the dining area doing just about everything.  As a former restaurant owner, I know that this is what it takes to be successful and I applaud him.  We started with the Caprese Salad with Burrata Cheese.  Entire family loved the silkiness of the cheese and fresh taste.  Next up was the Spicy Pasta with Meatballs.  Beware...this is spicy.  A little too spicy for my Daughter but we liked the overall flavor and the Meatballs.  The all beef Meatballs were delicious.  There were only 3 small Meatballs in the Pasta and I wanted to order a dozen more.  Wish I would have.  The Prosciutto and Arugula Pizza took a while to get because they cook their pizza in an oven that is not in the restaurant.  It is somewhere nearby and they run the pizza to the restaurant.  The Pizza has the crust that we love.  Not too thick and bubbly with black crisp marks on the edges.  Love the crust.  The sauce was very light and I actually wish there was more.  Aragula was fresh and the Prosciutto that they import from Italy was delicious.  The food is good here and we will return to support this business because the Owner and his staff care and work

so hard to provide a great Italian meal.  In fact to compensate us for the long wait for the pizza, they gave us a complimentary Tiramisu and bottled waters.  The Tiramisu is like a very light ice cream.  It is delicious.  My Wife and Daughter devoured it and said they would come back again just for Tiramisu.

Finished a round of Golf at Hoakalei and then headed into their Reflections Restaurant for a cold drink and some pupu's.  Enjoyed the Hoakalei Sushi Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Ahi Poke, Chips with Sausage and Cheese plus the best dish of the day; Korean Fried Chicken and Cheese.  I had never seen or heard of Korean Fried Chicken with Cheese but I remember when we went to Korea we fell in love with Korean Fried Chicken.  I ordered it just to see what it was all about and bam....the dish was amazing.  Our group gobbled up the Chicken and everyone said it was delicious.  In the sauce there are Carrots, Peas and Corn which I loved.  Never in a million years would I think that Fried Chicken and Cheese would go together but I am telling you this is delicious.  We ended up getting another order of the Korean Chicken with Cheese.  I tried to explain the dish to my Wife when I got home and she was a bit skeptical so I cannot wait to take her to the Club to try this delicious dish.  Absolutely loved it!

I was heading out to play a round of golf before noon and wanted to eat something before the round.

Looked in the fridge and saw Sausage, Bacon, Avocado and Eggs.  Burrito came to mind so I made one.

Started by cooking the Sausage and Bacon.  Then I sautéed Onion, Bell Pepper, Jalapeño and added to the meats along with two Scrambled Eggs.  Added Avocado, Cilantro and Hot Sauce for a delicious Breakfast Burrito that was filling and satisfying.

I saw Guieb Cafe post a photo of the Kalihiforna Burger a few days before it went on their Weekly Special.  I wanted to try it so bad just from the photo and description.  Wagyu Beef, Avocado, Grilled Pineapple, Cheese, Onion Rings, Lettuce, Tomato and Teriyaki Sauce.  The day these went on sale my office ordered a bunch of them.  Probably one of the best Burgers I have eaten in Hawaii.  The flavor of the Wagyu Beef came through as did a hint of Grilled Pineapple and Avocado.  The Onion Rings on top were not overcooked and melted in your mouth.  This is a really good burger.  I don't like Waffle Fries but these were pretty good.  Highly recommend the Kalihiforna Burger if if comes back on special.

After eating a big Kalihiforna Burger from Guieb Cafe for lunch, I didn't have much of an appetite 

when it came to dinner.  Enjoyed a light platter of Tartufo Cheese with Raspberry Jam, Italian Meats 

and grapes.  Perfect dinner on this night.

My Wife has her Carbonara recipe down solid now.  This Carbonara was amazing.  I kicked it up a notch by adding a scoop of Caviar on top.  This was a restaurant quality dinner using just a few ingredients.

Spaghetti, Pecorino and Parmesan Cheese, Egg Yolks, Italian Parsley, Basil and Pancetta.

Disgusting.  One of the worst meals on this blog.  When a co-worker recommended Richie's Drive Inn and said that they were known for their Boneless Chicken I said lets try it.  They evidently are also known for their Chili so she recommended I order the Chicken and Chili Plate Lunch.  I requested Onions on the Chile and they came out looking like someone cut them up with a pair of pliers.  Whoever cut them had not knife skills and maybe not even a knife.  The Chicken was horrible.  Breaded with a unseasoned and tasteless flour.  I ended up pulling off all the breading to just get some Chicken.  The Chicken was tasteless.  I mixed it with the Chili to try to salvage a meal.  Chili was very bland and basic.  Nothing I would order again.  Then there was the Mac Salad which was Snow White and nothing but a big blob of mayonnaise.  Disgusting!  I could not eat it.  Ended up throwing 80% this lunch away and vow never to return to Richie's Drive Inn.  NEVER!
