SPICY MISO RAMEN WITH ICHIRAN NOODLES

DINNER AT HOME

We actually purchased Ichiran Noodles during a trip to Japan.  Finally got to make Ramen at home on a cool (60 degree) and windy Hawaii evening.  This was very delicious and a real taste of Japan at home.

RAMEN KAMO TO NEGI - TOKYO, JAPAN

We were just walking down a Tokyo street when we saw a huge line at a very simple looking Ramen restaurant.  Not wanting to miss out on what was inside, we got in line and waited with the masses.  A quick Google search revealed that this restaurant is known for Duck Ramen which takes several days to make and is made with local ingredients and no added seasonings.  We learned that you need to order your meal from a vending type machine that dispenses prepaid tickets that are scooped up by an attendant who also writes down your side order.  When you get to the front of the line and are ready to be seated, they somehow know what order goes with what people.  After around a two hour wait we were seated in the very back of the small 12 seat restaurant and our Ramen came out quite quickly along with a cold beer that was also ordered at the machine.  The system is brilliant and eliminates checks, change and credit card authorization and paperwork.  The Ramen was delicious but not worthy of a two hour wait for me.  Loved the Duck but wish there had been more than two small pieces.  Delicious though and I am glad we took the time to eat here.

Restaurant Details
It’s a special combination of kamo and negi, duck meat and Japanese green onion. The ramen at Kamo to Negi uses only duck, Japanese green onion, and water for a simple and modern bowl. The soup is cooked for two days only with duck and water, and without using any chemical seasoning. The soup brings out the rich umami flavor of duck and sweetness of the Japanese green onion. The ramen noodles are also a Kamo to Negi’s original, blendings domestic white wheat and whole wheat flour. You can savor its simple but very sophisticated taste of the ramen. In addition to kamo ramen, Kamo to Negi also serves “oyakodon” (chicken and egg rice bowl) and “torotaku chirashi don” (pickled radish and minced tuna rice bowl). Only a 2-minute walk from Okachimachi Station, this hole-in-the-wall ramen place awaits. If you visit at lunchtime there will be a line, but it's worth waiting for!

My Daughter and her friends love Nabeya Maido.  She raves about the place but with COVID-19
the restaurant does not have indoor dining where you can cook the food at your table.  In an effort to pivot and create sales to stay in business, the Owner, Kevin Suehiro started selling MicrowavaBowls for only $9.99.  Believe me this is a deal for such freshness and quality.  Preparing your Nabeya at home could not be easier too.  Simply place in microwave and heat for four minutes.  Thats it!  You do not have to add water or anything.  Just heat and eat.  A super fresh, healthy and delicious lunch or dinner in just minutes.
Kevin will even deliver with a minimum purchase quantity.  These Bowls are delicious.
Please support local restaurants like Nabeya Maido during these difficult times.

SUN NOODLES MISO RAMEN WITH KING CRAB

SUN NOODLES MISO RAMEN WITH KING CRAB
DINNER AT HOME

Enjoyed some really delicious Noodles at the Hawaii Food and Wine Festival this year.  Sun Noodles served up a delicious Miso Ramen with Lobster.  The Broth and Noodles were delicious so we bought the Miso Ramen Noodles at the store and prepared our own Ramen at home.  We added King Crab, Vegetables, Cabbage, Corn, Bean Sprouts, Mushrooms, Fish Cake, Ramen Egg and Cilantro.
Wow....this was one of the best bowls of Ramen I have had in my life.  Far better than local chains in Hawaii and ten times better than Agu Ramen which is very popular in Honolulu.  This dish was the Bomb and we cooked it at home!

RAMEN IN TOKYO - JAPAN

RAMEN IN TOKYO
TOKYO, JAPAN

We were walking around our hotel in search of a bowl of Ramen for breakfast.  I was craving a bowl before we left Tokyo but finding a Ramen shop open before 11:00 am on a weekend proved difficult.  We walked for at least an hour through the small narrow streets off the main road.  Loved the walk because we were able to see so much just causing the streets in the early am.  This is one of my favorite things to do in Japan - just walk.  Just walk around and take in the people, architecture, buildings, culture and food.  We were about to give up and have meat for breakfast as there were a lot of grilled meat restaurants in this area.  As we worked our way back towards our hotel we saw a sign across the street that read "Ramen".  Thats it we were in.  There was a man sweeping the floor in front of the sign and we asked if they were open.  He waved us in with a hand gesture.  Turns out he was the cook and his Wife ran the front of the house.  Small two person operation.  They both were all smiles and friendly as we were the only people in the restaurant at about 9:30 am.  We sat down and water and menus were delivered in seconds.  Not much choice on the menu.  One item.  Ramen, Rice and Bean Sprouts.  Served with a cold tea.  We ordered hot tea too.  Ramen was absolutely delicious.  My Wife loved the egg so much that she ordered another one.  This was a really good breakfast that was filling and satisfying.
