BEVY

BEVY
SALT AT OUR KAKAAKO
675 AHUAHI STREET
HONOLULU, HI 96813
808-594-7445
HOURS: Monday thru Thursday 5PM - 10AM / Friday and Saturday 5PM - 12AM / Closed Sunday

Eating at Bevy was not planned but it turned out to be a great meal.  We ventured to Kakaako for Date Night and brought the dog.  Had planned on going to the Boiling Crab but they did not allow dogs.  We remembered the Taco place around the corner was good so we walked there and entered the restaurant.  The guy behind the counter said the Taco restaurant was closed but the kitchen is now being used to cook food for Bevy.  We did not know what Bevy was but walked next door to the entrance.  A man met us at the front door and said he needed to take our temperatures.  He did and then he seated us outside along Ahuahi Street.  Never went inside the restaurant so I don't know what it looks like or is all about.  We were greeted by a positive and happy waitress wearing a mask.  She said the menu was on the QR code taped to the table.  Simply point your phone camera at the code and the menu appears.  They call this contactless ordering.  The specials for the day were taped to the table and we ordered the Deviled Eggs for $6.  They were good.  Next up was a little Chips and Guacamole.  Again pretty good.  My Wife ordered the Lobster Roll dip ($12) and said she liked the Tomatoes.  She didn't eat much but said it was good.  I went with the Jumbo Lump Blue Crab Pasta ($24) and loved it.  Not really a lot of Crab or Crab flavor and in fact more Shrimp was on the plate than crab.  Sauce was light for a cream sauce and the flavors were excellent.  Pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. This was a delicious pasta that I would not hesitate to order again.  Food and service here were both excellent and the prices during Happy Hour are excellent.

LUNCH AND GOLF - HOAKALEI COUNTRY CLUB

LUNCH AND GOLF
HOAKALEI COUNTRY CLUB

Enjoyed a nice lunch and round of golf at Hoakalei Country Club.  This place is absolutely beautiful and it is THE BEST golf course on Oahu.  The staff and service on this day and most days is amazing.  Personalized service and attention while dining is very nice.  I started my day with a Seltzer rather than beer.  The flavored Seltzers are tasty, refreshing and light.  Doesn't fill me up like beer does so they are nice to drink on the course.  The Sushi at Hoakalei is always good.  Just wish they offered more of it.  Currenty they only have two rolls available and on this day they were out of Spicy Tuna.  Went with the Hoakalei Roll instead.  Delicious.  Seems like I always order the Caesar salad with Fresh Fish.  The fish is always cooked to perfection and satisfying.  On this visit the Caesar was loaded with dressing so next time I am getting the dressing on the side.

CAPRESE SALAD AND ITALIAN SANDWICH

CAPRESE SALAD AND ITALIAN SANDWICH
DINNER AT HOME

Went a little Italian for dinner with a Caprese Salad and Italian Sandwich.  Bought Vine Ripened Tomato, fresh Mozzarella and Avocado and then used Basil from our garden.  Drizzled a Balsamic Glaze over everything.  So light, fresh and delicious.  For the Italian Sandwich, I used four different Italian Meats along with Provolone Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Oregano and Italian Dressing.
Better sandwich than 99.9% of the sandwich shops in Honolulu.

Readers of this blog know that I have been getting my Guieb on a lot lately.  Saw a Fresh Catch Fish Sandwich on the menu so I decided to try it.  This was probably my least favorite dish at Guieb but it was still good.  Part of the problem was the sandwich sat awhile and got soggy.  Also did not like the fact that the fish was breaded.  Why bread fresh fish?  The Fries were not seasoned and not crispy.  This experience will not stop me from eating at Guieb.  I love this place.

STUFFED BELL PEPPERS - AGAIN!

STUFFED BELL PEPPERS
DINNER AT HOME

We loved the Stuffed Bell Peppers made last week and had a bunch of the uncooked filling left.
I was going to stuff something different than Bell Peppers but then saw Green Peppers on sale.
Decided just to make Stuffed Peppers again and the entire family was glad I did.  My Daughter even thought these were the bomb.

TACO BELL POWER MENU BOWL

TACO BELL POWER MENU BOWL
LUNCH AT THE OFFICE

Wow...was I surprised how good the Taco Bell Power Menu Bowl is.  This thing was delicious.  Chicken, Black Beans, Rice, Guacamole, Cheese, Lettuce and Ranch Dressing.  I didn't eat the Ranch   Dressing because there was enough flavor without it and I wanted to reduce calories.  With the dressing this meal is only 470 calories and only cost around $6.  I like Taco Bell but now I have a new lunch favorite and it is the Power Bowl with Chicken.  Yummy and satisfying!

PITA PIT

PITA PIT
SAFEWAY SHOPPING CENTER

HONOLULU HI 96816

HOURS:  Daily 11AM - 8PM

Gave Pita Pit on Kapahulu Avenue a try with the family.  Overall reaction from all three of us was staff was not friendly and the food was not satisfying.  We had never heard or eaten at a Pita Pit before so when we walked in we did not know what to expect.  At first glance you would think you just order the sandwich and that's it.  We were not greeted when we walked in.  Just blank stares behind the masks from the two employees working.  We looked at the menu - stood there and still not a word.  My Daughter decided she wanted a Gyro Salad and ordered.  No response from the cashier.  I jumped in and ordered as did my Wife.  Still no words until the check came and he asked me to sign.  We took a seat and then I noticed a large prep station full of vegetables, dressings, condiments and spices.  We still were not told anything about the process and did not know that you can choose whatever you want to complete your sandwich or salad.  The gal behind the counter had a box in her hand and stared at my Daughter.  She did not explain anything or even ask what we wanted.  I told my Daughter that I think you choose whatever you want and build your own salad.  My Daughter then started requesting items like lettuce, carrots and cucumber.  There are a dozen or so dressings available but the gal did not ask if she wanted dressing or anything else.  Ok we figured this out but it would have been nice if the workers would have engaged us and explained the process.  I was getting a Gyro so I went with Romaine Lettuce, Onion and Cucumber.  I asked the gal if they had the sauce for it and she said "what Tkaziki Sauce" with an attitude.  I told her yes to the sauce.  We went outside to eat and all of us concluded that the gal working was not too friendly to say it nicely.
I think a Pita shop should have the best Pita bread.  This place does not.  The meats for the Gyro and Philly Sandwiches were pretty bland but the vegetables were fresh.

STUFFED BELL PEPPERS

STUFFED BELL PEPPERS
DINNER AT HOME

Had a few extra Bell Peppers that needed to be used so I made Stuffed Bell Peppers.  Mixed Ground Beef and Pork with Rice, Parmesan Cheese, Diced Tomatoes, Garlic, Onions and spices.  Baked for one hour covered with foil and then another 15 minutes without foil at 375 degrees.  Served with Tomato and Basil Pasta Sauce.  When you get a bite of the Bell Pepper, Filling and Sauce all in one bite it is heaven.  This dish came out perfect and the entire family loved it!
