AHI SASHIMI AND AVOCADO

When I shop at Foodland Farms in Aina Haina, I always check the Seafood Department for fresh Ahi.  Saw this very nice block for around $20 and grabbed it.  This was "wow" fresh and so silky and melt in your mouth delicious.

Believe it or not this is one of our all time favorite dinners.  Sashimi and Avocado and that's it.  When the Sashimi is fresh like this the flavor is amazing.  Melts like butter in your mouth.

When you see an untreated fresh piece of Ahi like this, you just gotta grab it despite the high price of over $50 per pound.  This Sashimi was like butter and so delicious.  One of my fave light and satisfying meals.

My Wife came home from work with a block of Ahi Sashimi on St. Patrick's Day.  Guess she was craving Sashimi because I am the one that usually brings home the Ahi.  Made this delicious appetizer which my Daughter devoured and left us a few pieces.  Entire family loves this!

Made one of my favorite appetizers of all time with an incredible block of Ahi we purchased at Sam's Club for $15.  The Ahi was so fresh, bright red, glossy and cut like butter.  Pure Sashimi heaven and I did not get one single bite.  My Daughters surf buddies came over for dinner and devoured all of it. Little ol' me got nothin.

We are loving the abundance of fresh Ahi in Hawaii.  I got this beautiful block for $10 and made a platter of Sashimi with fresh Avocado and Japanese Cucumbers.  A slice of Sashimi and Avocado together dipped in Shoyu/Wasabi Sauce is heaven.  This platter didn't last long.

Mother's Day weekend and I offered to make my Wife anything she wants for dinner Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  For the Friday night appetizer she chose Sashimi which the entire family loves.  With fresh fish being abundant because restaurants are closed, I was able to score a beautiful block for Grade A Ahi for under $10.  When the fish is this bright and shiny red like this you know it will be good.  Oh...and this was one of the best ever!

Our entire family loves Sashimi.  So lucky to live in Hawaii where it is popular and abundant.  The COVID-19 virus has closed all of our restaurants so there is a large supply of fresh fish in the markets.  This block of Ahi was only $10.  Sliced it thin and served with Soy Sauce and Wasabi mixture along with fresh Avocado.  Yummy!!!!

I told myself that I was not going to blog about Waolani Windows when we sat down for dinner there recently.  Just going to enjoy a nice dinner and keep my camera in my pocket I thought.  Well that all changed when our Sashimi Appetizer arrived.  It looked beautiful and my daughter pulled out her camera to take a photo.  Oh well I said "guess I'm blogging tonight"  The Sashimi presentation was beautiful with the eatable Gold Leaf and large slices of fresh Ahi, Hamachi and Avocado.  I loved the green line of Wasabi down the side of the plate.  Perfect way to slide the Sashimi across the line and pick up the flavor and heat of the Wasabi.  The Caesar Salad was huge.  Really enough for two people.  What put this Caesar over the top was the Poached Egg on top.  Bursting the egg over the fresh greens, parmesan and avocado added another depth of texture and flavor to the salad.  Absolutely delicious.  The salad includes some large pieces of really hard bread and Parmesan Crisps.  These were difficult to eat because of their size and hardness.  The Steamed Onaga with Lobster was amazingly good my Wife Said.  I had the Appetizer portion of the Fruits Di Mari which included a nice piece of Onaga too.  The fish was super fresh and flavorful.  Served with pieces of Lobster, King Crab, and Scallops in a Lobster Cream Sauce. Dish also included nice mushrooms and green peas that were a good contrast to the seafood.  Cannot believe this was on the menu as a Warm Appetizer as it served as a Entree for me.  Loved it!  My daughter went for the Kona Kampachi.  She did not say much but mowed most of it down and was quite happy.  My only complaint about Waolani Windows is that it is a private members only restaurant at Oahu Country Club.  Wish everyone could dine here and enjoy the outstanding food, service and view.  Great place to take the family, dine with friends, entertain clients or bring out of town guests.  Still think the food here is as good or better than most places in Honolulu.

We stayed home as usual for New Year's Eve.  At home with the family eating a great meal, lighting fireworks and enjoying this precious life.  We began our meal with fresh Island Sashimi for good luck.  Our main course was a braised Veal Chop with shallots, wine and veal stock reduction.  On the side was a very nice piece of Chilean Sea Bass topped with Truffle Butter and a poached egg. Served over Risotto with Asparagus.  Simply amazing and delicious.  The Poached Egg was an improvisation on a dish we enjoyed at Gordon Ramsay's in New York.  Gordon places an egg yolk only inside the fish.  We tried pouring a regular egg yolk into an incision we made in the Sea Bass.  The yolk would not fit.  I think we can pull this dish off the right way with smaller yolks.  I was amazed when the egg yolk spilled over the fish at Gordon Ramsay's.  It was a surprise and also very delicious.
