AHI SASHIMI AND AVOCADO

APPETIZER AT HOME

When I shop at Foodland Farms in Aina Haina, I always check the Seafood Department for fresh Ahi.  Saw this very nice block for around $20 and grabbed it.  This was "wow" fresh and so silky and melt in your mouth delicious.

When you see an untreated fresh piece of Ahi like this, you just gotta grab it despite the high price of over $50 per pound.  This Sashimi was like butter and so delicious.  One of my fave light and satisfying meals.

Super fresh Ahi was available at the market so I bought a slab and made Seared Ahi and Sashimi.  I love Ahi both ways but my Wife prefers the Sashimi style.  This is probably one of my favorite appetizers ever.

PAN SEARED AHI

DINNER AT HOME

This dinner was the best.  Restaurant quality meal for two for under $20.  I simply seasoned the Ahi with Hawaiian Salt and Pepper before searing it in a mixture of butter and olive oil.  What set this dish over the top was the sauce which I made with sautéed Shallots and Garlic with Butter, White Wine, Chicken Stock, Cream and more Butter.  Reduced the sauce to perfection.  Tasted like a Five Star Restaurant.  The bomb!

AHI SASHIMI PLATTER

Picked up an incredible block of fresh Ahi Sashimi and sliced it up with some Avocado to make this Sashimi Platter for 4th of July.  The Ahi cut like butter and melted in your mouth.  Super fresh fish like this is one of the great things about living in Hawaii.  Love it!

SASHIMI WITH AVOCADO AND JALAPENO

Loving the abundance of fresh Ahi in Hawaii markets and taking advantage of the lower prices which will probably rise now that restaurants are opening today.  I spiced this Sashimi up a bit by adding thinly sliced Jalapeños.  Really goes well with the Avocado and Ahi.  Surrounded the plate with Japanese Cucumbers which my Daughter loves.  In fact she eats every one on the plate.

We wanted a light dinner and fresh Ahi so I came up with this Ahi Tower with Papaya and Avocado.  Topped with a little Seaweed Salad.  The base consists of Zucchini, Corn, Onion and Jalapeño.
I really could eat this every single day.  So lucky to have the best fresh Ahi in the World in Hawaii.

My Wife hit it out of the park with this Garlic Ahi dinner.  Absolutely the best Garlic Ahi I have ever eaten.  Cooked to a perfect pink medium rare and full of garlic flavor.  I loved this so much!

Diners Upscale is close to my office and yet I had never eaten there until today.  My lunch was incredible.  Fresh Garlic Ahi with Asparagus and Green Salad.  Usually the plate comes with rice but I opted for all greens.  The Ahi was amazing.  Probably one of the best Ahi dishes of my life.  The fish was grilled and covered with garlic.  Lots of garlic.  Loved it.  The Asparagus was grilled and had a nice char taste.  Also liked the vinaigrette on the salad.  What a great lunch for around $12.

It is rare that I eat sushi twice in one week.  After my daughter saw that I had sushi for lunch, she wanted to have some too.  I had heard that the new Conveyor Belt Sushi restaurant in Kahala Mall was really good by two people recently.  We ended up going there for lunch.  There was a line waiting when we arrived.  They take your name and ask you to wait outside in the mall.  When there is room at the counter someone comes out and calls your name.  The staff is very young and energetic.  We were seated and served ice water and hot tea immediately.  Then it is just a matter of picking off the plates as they slowly come by on the conveyor belt.  Pricing is based on the color of the plate.  We had a few Yellow Plates ($1.45), Green Plates ($2.10), Red Plates ($2.75) and one White Plate ($4.75).  These are good prices for sushi in a mall.  The Ahi Tuna is $2.75 for two pieces.  Pricing aside,  the sushi here to me was just o.k.  I keep thinking about the crab and corn sushi that was overloaded with mayo.  The Lobster Balls were imitation lobster that tasted like sugar.  Could not eat this thing.  The winners of the day were the Ahi Tuna and Udon Noodle soup.  I would go to other conveyor belt places over Kuru Kuru.  Not a bad dining deal though.  $30 for two.
