PASTA WITH CLAM SAUCE

DINNER AT HOME

Gotta be honest, my Pasta with Clam Sauce recipe is pretty darn good.  Even my wife who doesn't like Clam Sauce said this was delicious.  I used a combination of Chopped Clams and Razor Clams.  Normally serve with Linguine but we only had Thin Spaghetti which worked fine.  I didn't add any Tomato Sauce as in the recipe below.

Stopped into Et Al. for Brunch on a Sunday.  Place was packed but there was room at the large communal table by the bar.  The very friendly staff took our order and provided excellent service.  The Mexican Street Avo Toast was underwhelming.  They used canned Baby Corn which was terrible.  Grilled Kahuku Sweet Corn would have been a one thousand times better choice.  Not much seasoning or flavor in this dish.  My Wife had the Breakfast Bowl and she said the Pork Belly was tasteless.  Said it should have been seasoned or marinated. She wasn't satisfied with here meal like me.  Not our fave spot for Brunch.

I liked Giovedi from the time we walked in the door.  This is the kind of place that I wish we had more of in Honolulu.  Has kind of a hip vibe with cool outdoor terrace seating.  Staff was friendly and service was excellent.  We started with the Hokkaido Milk Rolls that were $11.  Served with a delicious Black Garlic Butter Spread.  Good but $11 for Rolls not a great deal.  The Green Salad was chilled, light and crisp.  Loved the dressing.  The star of the meal was the Prosciutto San Daniele.  Wow....I am craving this right now and want to go back and have it again.  When you take the Prosciutto with Shaved Parmesan and place it inside the Vietnamese Sesame Donuts and then add the Giardiniera Pickles you have one of my favorite bites of 2025.  Absolutely mind blowing delicious.  LOVED IT!  The Foie Gras Torchon was incredibly rich and bursting with flavor.  The Olive Oil Toast was perfect but wow...this was making us full before the main courses arrived.  I had read many reviews saying the portions were small here.  Not on this night.  We were very happy with the portion sizes.  My Wife loved the Capellini Granchio which is a very light Pasta dish with a big burst of lemon and toasted bread on top.  The Gnocchi Mabolognese was like no other Gnocchi I have ever eaten.  So light and fluffy.  Literally melts in your mouth.  Turns out they do not use potato for the Gnocchi.  Great dinner and will definitely be back soon!

The space formerly occupied by La Vie which was one of our favorite restaurants has been taken over by Solera which is a Hawaii Regional Cuisine restaurant featuring locally sourced products.  We went here on a Friday and were able to enjoy the fireworks show over Waikiki. Service was excellent with a very nice waiter who was really welcoming and engaging. The Tasting Menu at $120 per person is a pretty good deal for high end food in Waikiki.  Thought the food was good but not great.  Cornbread Johnny Cake and the Local Beets were my favorite dishes.  The Risotto which I did not take a photo of for some reason was good but there was just too much going on in the dish.  Fish was overcooked and hard.  Steak was perfectly cooked and tasty but we were so full we had to take some home.  The three desserts were not worth the carbs and sugar.  Probably will not be coming back here for dinner but would like to try the Afterglow on Friday and Saturday nights.
