We were told by locals to visit The Beach Bar on Tumon Bay. After a long day of working we drove down Gun Beach Road just minutes from the Westin Resort. At the end of the road there is a large parking area that fronts what looks like a restaurant/bar you would see in Mexico. There are volleyball courts and a game where you throw bags filled with sand at a target. Both the volleyball courts and bag throwing games were filled with young American soldiers having a much needed break from their duties. We entered the large open air hut type structure to find loud music and dozens of soldiers enjoying large amounts of cold beverages. Some sat quietly in a daze while others whopped it up like I remember doing in my twenties. These guys were letting loose and they deserve it. We looked at the view and walked to the bar. Took a few minutes to get the attention of the bartender, but we got a few cold beers and set up at a table near the ocean. The music blared and drunk people were all around. Took us about two minutes to realize that we were two old guys wearing pants and golf shirts among a platoon of twenty year olds with no shirts. I thought about taking my shirt off but quickly shelved that thought after feeling my belly touching the table. We finished one beer and left to have dinner. The Beach Bar is a great place for the young who want to spend a day drinking. The Bar also serves food and even puts on local style Chamorro BBQ's. There is plenty of seating under the hut, on the deck and even on the beach where they have placed lounge chairs and seating areas. There is an adjacent table area away from the hoopla where you can enjoy a beachfront meal and cocktail. I will try dinner here during my next visit to Guam. It was great to see the great men and woman who serve our country enjoying a moment on the beach in Guam. I could not help but think what hell hole they could be shipped out to in a matter of days, weeks or months. This was "there" time to let loose and party on American soil.

The Beach is located on the northernmost end of Tumon’s shopping district, just past the Hotel Nikko Guam. Drive straight and follow the signs to the Beach. Located just to the left of Gun Beach, The Beach, offers spectacular, unobstructed sunset views, soothing waves, and the most expansive private beach front on Guam. Hotel pick-up is available and HIS Sirena provides trolley service several times an hour from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm.

I love Prego at the Westin Guam Resort. Eat here every time I visit Guam and always stay at this hotel. Check this blog for more photos and reviews on Prego. The restaurant is comfortable and has amazing views of Tumon Bay. I like the fresh home made pasta here. This time I tried the Lasagna. This is a huge portion of fresh layered pasta with a Beef Ragu and Bechemel Sauce. While the pasta was good the dish was a bit short on flavor. Totally enjoyed the Ahi Tuna and Avocado Salad. This is light and refreshing appetizer that I would highly recommend. My friend went for the Classic Caesar Salad and loved it. Said he would eat it again the following night. Throw in a few glasses of Italian Chianti and this is a great place to eat and relax. Service is always good.

We were giving a training class for around ten people at a business on Guam. I asked the local students where they would like us to buy lunch and several said the Jamaican Grill. One of the office ladies got on the phone and ordered lunch for our group. She ordered five Family Platters ($49 each) consisting of 1 whole Jerk Chicken, 1 full slab of Ribs with plenty of rice and a separate plate of House Salad. I drove over to Jamaican Grill to pick up the take-out order. The place is located on the second story of a building sitting in a parking lot next to the Orchid Hotel and across from the Pacific Island Club Resort. I walked up the stairs not knowing what to expect. I found a huge covered outdoor patio that leads to a very bright and cheerful interior dining space. The entire staff smiled and welcomed me. I told them that I was picking up an order and boom it was ready. Paid the tab and they brought the food downstairs to the parking lot near my car. Turns out the restaurant has a take-out kiosk in the parking lot. You can literally drive up and pick up and pay for your food. There is really no need to walk upstairs to pick up your take-out. I drove the food back to the office not knowing anything about what was ordered or what it would taste like. Did not have a clue what a Family Platter was. Just knew that I had five of these platters in my trunk. Was surprised to open the packaging and find a really well presented pile of Chicken, Ribs and Rice. My mouth was watering when I saw the food and the bottle of Jamaican Grill Hot Sauce that the Manager had included with our platters. I poured the hot sauce on the chicken, ribs and rice. Everything was delicious. Wish they had a Jamaican Grill in Hawaii. I would visit quite frequently.

While on Guam, we needed to provide training to a group of contractors that I work with. The owner of the company decided to combine an employee BBQ with the training. Wow...what a treat for us. They cooked up a Guam style BBQ that I will never forget. Enjoyed some absolutely delicious food, a few cold beverages and time with some really great people. Shawn Ogo and Dave Laughlin were the ring masters here with Shawn acting as Chef while Dave kept the training and cold beverages flowing. Shawn knocked the bottom out of his personal recipes serving up some of the best beef, potato salad and seared ahi. Shawn's Potato Salad was the bomb and I usually don't eat much Potato Salad. He combined potatoes, egg, bacon, pimentos and a few other ingredients with just enough mayo to not soak the dish. I went back for thirds and so did my friend. Would have eaten more if I was not watching my figure. Shawn's Deviled Eggs were just as good. Loved the bit of horseradish that he put in this dish. Enjoyed some really fresh Ahi Poke and Seared Ahi that was caught fresh in Guam. I could have finished the entire plate of Seared Ahi if I was not full on everything else. Shawn ended his culinary feast with some of the best Carne Asada I have ever tasted. Marinade was perfect and better than most Mexican Restaurants I have dined at. What an incredible meal with some really special people who really know how to enjoy life and take care of each other. Whether you are in Guam, Hawaii or any other place in the world. Good people and good food make life happy. We really appreciated the warm hospitality and cooking of our new Guam friends.
