Paid a fortune for a First Class seat from New York to Honolulu on Hawaiian Airlines.  My lay flat seat was broken and would not go back so it pushed me towards the front.  The seat would go back and forth on its own and I really had very little control on what it would do.  Worst part is that when the seat locked in a forward position, I couldn't get out to go to the bathroom.  It really took some acrobatics to get in and out of the seat.  I reported this twice to the Flight Attendants and they didn't seem to care or offer any solutions.  They simply said they "reported it".  Once again the food sucked.  Some of the worst First Class dining in the skies.  Food is not even worth serving in Coach.  Service on Hawaiian is minimal with the crew rarely refilling drinks and never going the extra mile to provide a high level of service.  Seems most do the minimal possible and then hideout in the galley.

How Hawaiian Airlines can have the best new 787 passenger jet and charge $5000 for a First Class ticket and then give lousy service and food is beyond me.  Hawaiian Air just does not give a crap about its customers.  I think filling the seats is all that is important to them.  Food is absolutely horrible and the worst of any airline I have ever flown.  Sometimes it is uneatable and tasteless.  No thought goes into the menu, preparation or taste.  I think everything is based solely on low food cost.  The Chicken served on this flight was terrible.  So bad that I gave it back and ordered a Cheese Platter from Coach.  Believe it or not on one First Class flight they made me pay for the Cheese Platter.  Was not charged this time.  The breakfast with a Kalua Pork Potato thing is uneatable and there is no Kalua Pork inside.  What a joke.  When it comes to service most Hawaiian Airlines flights to the basic minimum even in First Class.  Drinks are not refilled and there is very little attention paid to the customer during the flight which is the exact opposite of other Asian or International carriers.  It is depressing when you are loyal to the airline and mileage program but always feel ripped off after a first class flight.  Note to Hawaiian Airlines or Alaska Airlines CEO:

please fly JAL, ANA, Korean Air, Thai Air or Singapore Airlines and see how the food taste and how the Flight Attendants treat their customers.  Then fly Hawaiian to experience the difference.

Readers of my blog know that I am a die hard Hawaiian Airlines customer primarily for their routes and mileage program.  Not always a fan of the service or food.  On this flight the food was actually decent.

Just when I thought the food on Hawaiian Airlines could not get worse, they come up with a Cabbage and Potato Hash Patties with Kalua Pork.  Problem is that the potatoes contained no pork.  There were maybe two small strands like dental floss and that's it.  Potatoes and cabbage were not seasoned.  I poured ketchup and Tabasco on the things to give them some taste.

It is high time for Hawaiian Airlines to make a change in their First Class food service.  Every single person I talk to says the same thing.  "Hawaiian Air food sucks".  Service is hit or miss with sometimes getting a great Flight Attendant that understands customer service and does more than the minimum.  Most cases they just go through the motions with minimal service and stay in the galley and play on their phones and talk.

I am a die hard Hawaiian Airlines Mileage Member and fly them more than any other Island by far.  While I love the airline, I have often not been a fan of the food or service.  The service never seems to be at the level of Asian or International carriers.  In fact, many times it is terrible with Flight Attendants talking in the galley and on their phones most of the flight.  Basic low level service is now expected.  THIS ALL CHANGED WITH "MATTY".  A Flight Attendant who gets it and provides service beyond expectations.  From the time we boarded tis flight, Matty was on fire.  Filling drinks and engaging passengers in conversation.  During the flight he continued to make sure your drinks were full and that you were happy.  This is unheard of on Hawaiian where I often go the entire flight without anyone filling a drink or providing water.  Matty was on it the entire flight.  This guy should be cloned and used for training all Hawaiian Flight Attendants.  Matty showed what Hawaiian Airlines could be if they had more people like him.
