HAWAII VS PEPPERDINE WOMANS VOLLEYBALL AND HAWAII FIVE-O

HAWAII VS PEPPERDINE
WOMANS VOLLEYBALL
STAN SHERIFF CENTER
UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII

We knew that the crowd would be large for the University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine vs the Pepperdine Waves.  This woman's volleyball game was especially different because they were filming scenes for an upcoming episode of Hawaii Five-0 in the stands and on the court.  The line to enter the Stan Sheriff Center extended from the box office all the way into the parking structure.  Only in Hawaii would fans quietly line up without any direction or supervision.  I don't even think the Stan Sheriff staff understood what was going on outside.  If they did know, they should have opened the doors a little early rather than waiting until 6:00 pm on the dot.  When the doors opened, it was very calm with nobody rushing the entrance.  This was an amazing show of class by the Hawaii fans.  Once you entered the Center, there was a line to enter the gift shop that was a mile long.  This huge line was for a simple white t-shirt that said you were an extra on Hawaii Five-O.  The shirt was free with every $15 purchase at the gift shop.  People lined up for over an hour and then paid top dollar for University of Hawaii merchandise to get the t-shirt.  With hundreds of people waiting in line, the gift shop only had one cash register operating.  They had a staff of three people and only one could ring up purchases.  This was insane.  Stupid me waited in the line, purchased some items and got the Hawaii Five-0 shirts for family and friends.  Luckily the line at the beer stand was not too long so I enjoyed some refreshment after the gift shop ordeal.  Once seated in the stands it was magical to see over 10,000 fans rocking and rolling while watching Wahine Volleyball.  There is nothing like this in America when it comes to college volleyball.  A true gem to experience in person.  Wahine Volleyball is more than a volleyball game.  It is an experience and joy to watch the fans dance, sing and cheer.  Hawaii beat Pepperdine on this night and after the game they made a few set changes on the court and filmed scenes for Hawaii Five-0.

UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII WOMANS VOLLEYBALL

UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII WOMAN'S VOLLEYBALL
STAN SHERIFF CENTER, UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII

One of our favorite treats in life is being season ticket holders to U.H. Woman's Volleyball. The Rainbow Wahine are always exciting and play with great heart and a never give up spirit. The games are packed with around 4,000 to 6,000 people per game. Our seats are lower level near the pep band and student section which makes for a lot of fun. There are many dining options at the Stan Sheriff Center. I usually opt for a small beer ($4.25) because the large ones take longer to drink and then get warm. The great deal here is to order the childrens hot dog plate. For $4.50 you get a hot dog, fries and a drink. I usually inhale the dog while my wife gets the fries and soda. During this weekend's three nights of games we had the Bambucha Nachos ($5.50). This is a huge plate of chips with cheese, ground beef, tomatoes, sour creme and green onion. Add two pounds of jalapenos and you have a great dish that you will remember in the morning. We often grab a salad or sandwich and soup. There is a small booth that serves California Pizza Kitchen menu items. My daughter ordered pasta with sausage, onions and marinara sauce for around $5. It was delicious. We always enjoy a bowl of soy beans and Keli never leaves without Dip n' Dot ice cream. Rainbow Wahine Volleyball has got to be one of the best things in college sports. Always fun, exciting and pretty good grinds too.
