SIDE STREET INN - THE ORIGINAL ONCE AGAIN

SIDE STREET INN
HONOLULU, HAWAII

Enjoyed another great meal with some out of town guests at the Side Street Inn on Hopaka Street.  Really like this original location versus the newer restaurant on Kapahulu.  Something about the old school feel of the place with tables and chairs that don't match, boxes stacked in every corridor   and no frills decor.  I like the valet parking right in front.  It cost $3 but is worth the convenience.  Something about the place makes me want a cold beer every time I walk in the door.  The waitresses are always on top of it here.  Always checking your drinks and making sure you have enough food on the table.  The Side Street Inn is a perfect place to eat Family Style.  Order a bunch of plates and share.  We started with the Spinach Salad ($13.50) with Hau'ula vine-ripened tomatoes, bacon, egg, cheddar cheese and house made balsamic dressing.  This is my favorite Spinach Salad on the Island.  Followed up the salad with the Kalua Pork Sliders.  Soft Chinese style buns stuffed with Smokey Kalua Pork and pineapple.  Served with a sweet sauce.  The Award Winning Side Style Famous Fried Rice ($12) is the bomb.  Best Fried Rice on the Island served with generous portions of Char Siu, Portuguese Sausage, Bacon, Peas, Carrots and Green Onion.  The Edamame ($8) is boiled in Hawaiian Salt brine and served with lots of garlic.  The Sizzling Rib Eye Steak was a little over $20.  Prime Beef served pupu style.  Sliced and served on a sizzling platter with delicious mushrooms and grilled onions in a house Garlic Butter.   The Pan Fried Island Pork Chops ($22) were pretty good this time.  Meaty pieces of pork seasoned and pan fried to a golden brown.  Served with good old Ketchup.  Absolutely loved the Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch ($7.50).  Milk chocolate and peanut butter combined with crumbled wafers that the waitress said were house made.  Served with my favorite Roselani Vanilla Ice Cream from Maui.  The Molten Lava Cake ($10) was the chocolate bomb.  Only problem is that everyone was so stuffed by the end of dinner we couldn't finish the thing.  Wish I had it now a day later.

SIDE STREET INN

SIDE STREET INN
HONOLULU, HAWAII

Wow....how great it was to get back to the original Side Street Inn.  The newer Side Street on Kapahulu does not compare to the original.  Once again we enjoyed great service and the ambiance of an Hawaii classic bar/restaurant.  I love this place.  Simple, no attitude and great waitresses that care about your experience no matter how busy it gets.  Our rookie waitress Annie was the best.  Just off her training week and already a seasoned professional.  We started with the Garlic Soy Beans.  Warm and filled with the taste of garlic.  Followed this up with the Manila Clams in white wine and butter.  Great broth and clam flavor.  The clams were small but filled with flavor.  The bread soaked in the sauce was a winner.  We enjoyed Hawaii's best Spinach Salad once again.  Fresh Spinach with bacon, cheese, onions, egg and balsamic dressing.  Really a great salad.  We also had the Worlds Best Fried Rice.  Have never had better.  We love Side Street's Fried Rice.  It is filled with vegetables, various meats and just a perfect blend of everything.  Finished the meal with a blazing plate of Rib Eye Steak.  Served on a sizzling platter and loaded with sauteed onions and mushrooms.  Pretty darn good.

SIDE STREET INN

SIDE STREET INN
HONOLULU, HAWAII

One of the best finds in all of Hawaii. This place rocks with great food. Side Street Inn is a hidden gem that it well known to locals and void of a lot of tourists. Located on a small street across from the Ala Moana Shopping Center and buried in an industrial area full of girly bars the Side Street Inn is a destination not to be missed when in Honolulu.  Parking is almost non existent here so they offer valet parking that is quick and courteous. The food is served family style in large portions. The Fried Rice is the absolute best in Hawaii. Full of meat and veggies and cooked perfectly every time. The steak and onions is awesome as are the Fried Pork Chops. The Spinach Salad is fantastic too. Just about everything you order here is great eats. We sampled the Steamed Clams, Chicken Katsu and a Steak that was just delicious. I really need to take notes next time we eat here. There are so many dishes that I would like to talk about. The problem is that the beer keeps flowing while the dishes come. We are having so much fun meeting people at the tables next to us and sharing food from table to table. The next day you wake up and say "wow" that was fantastic food.
