Nice to be cooking again after a lot of restaurant dining during the past few weeks.

PAN SEARED ALASKAN HALIBUT

DINNER AT HOME

Our friends took a trip to Alaska and did some fishing.  They brought back Salmon and Halibut that they actually caught themselves.  My Wife cooked this incredible dinner and made a White Wine, Shallot, Ginger, Tomato and Calibrian Chili Sauce.  Pretty much fish perfection!

HALIBUT WITH LEMON BUTTER AND FRIED SHALLOTS

HALIBUT WITH LEMON BUTTER AND FRIED SHALLOTS
DINNER AT HOME

Picked up some super fresh looking Halibut and prepared it with a simple Lemon Butter.  I pan seared the Halibut to brown and then finished in 350 degree oven for just a few minutes.  Came out perfect.
Topped the Halibut with Lemon Butter and Fried Shallots.  This was a delicious restaurant quality meal that cost around $25 for three people and that includes all the veggies which I sautéed with Garlic, Shallots, Salt and Pepper.

THE SEA CHEST OYSTER BAR AND SEAFOOD RESTAURANT

FRESH CLAMS WERE DELICIOUS
THE SEA CHEST
OYSTER BAR AND SEAFOOD RESTAURANT
MOONSTONE BEACH, CA

When my Dad and his lovely bride Heidi suggested we eat at their favorite Cambria Seafood restaurant just hours after a Chemo Therapy we were surprised.  Sounds great if Dad is up for it we said.  Turns out this place does not accept reservations.  When we arrived just after 5:30 pm. there was a huge line waiting to get in.  I have never seen anything like this.  Dozens of people in warm jackets lined up in the parking lot.  All calm and in good spirits.  The lined moved quickly after the doors opened and we were seated at a nice table in the back of the restaurant.  Perfect place away from the busy and loud Oyster Bar area.  I loved the homey feel of this place.  Like being in someones home.  The service was great with the waiters and waitress always doing their best to make sure we were happy.  Yes were were.  Very happy.  When you consider the wave of diners that enter the place when it opens, I was surprised that the food came out so quickly.  This is a top notch operation with many years of experience.  The meal started with some hot sour dough rolls with butter.  I ordered a bowl of Clam Chowder.  It was thick and creamy but lacked a whole lot of clams.  Good flavor.  The Clams and Oysters were shucked fresh and were delicious.  My Cioppino was FANTASTIC!  There was enough in the bowl to serve three people.  I barely put a dent in this tomato based soup filled with Calamari, small Scallops, Shrimp, Crab and several types of fish.  The broth was amazing.  I could have sit there for hours sipping the broth.  Best I have ever had.  The others at the table enjoyed fresh fish selections.  This is the kind of place that I wish we had in Hawaii.  I would go back here again and again and try just about everything on the menu.

HARBOR RESTAURANT - SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA

HARBOR RESTAURANT
SANTA BARBARA, CA

We hit Stearns Wharf in Santa Barbara on a cool summer night at sunset. This is a beautiful part of California and the restaurant overlooks the beach. It does not get much better. We were greeted by a happy and professional staff that set the tone for a wonderful evening. We were seated at a table in the shape of a sail boat and complete with sail. We started with some Fried Calamari ($13). Large pieces of squid battered to perfection. This was followed by Steamed Clams ($15) that were large and flavorful. The next appetizer blew my socks off. It was so good that I have been thinking about it everyday. The dish was Lobster Mac and Cheese ($19). Large pieces of lobster tail served in a not too cheesy but creamy Mac and Cheese. Absolutely the bomb. I would go back to Santa Barbara just to eat this dish. I had a cup of Clam Chowder ($8) that was just delicious. Filled with clams, creamy and delicious. My Nephew had the Prime Rib ($29) and it looked fantastic. He loved every bite. My daughter ordered the Caesar Salad ($9). It was presented like no other I have ever seen. Standing up and tied together with a green onion. Very impressive presentation. The Salmon ($26) and Halibut ($34) were pricey but beautifully presented and I was told very delicious. The Linguini Pescato ($24) with clams, fish and calamari was absolutely delicious. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the seafood was excellent. We ended the meal with a huge Cookie Monster ($8) which was ice cream sandwiched between a really good chocolate chip cookie and covered in whip creme. The absolute bomb of a dessert. The cookie was warm and soft. Not hard like every other place I have had this type of dessert. This was an incredible meal with family. One of the best if not THE BEST of our entire trip. Cannot wait to return. While the prices are a bit high, this is great quality, presentation and service. Could be a TASTE OF HAWAII FAVORITE
