We had not been to Duane's Ono Char Burger in years so I decided to stop in on our way to Princeville on Kauai. Duane's Ono Char Burger is a Kauai institution and is located on the main highway next to the Post Office. There is normally a line so I recommend getting here early. Locals order these burgers by the box load so sometimes it may seem empty but there are large take out orders being prepared in the small kitchen. Be patient and just enjoy the food and ambiance sitting outside at the concrete tables. I ordered the Ono Cheeseburger ($5.65). This is a 1/4 pound burger served with tomato, lettuce and mayo. I asked for onion and the gal was very happy to add it. Service on this visit was very friendly. The burger was actually better than I remember. The lettuce was crisp, the tomato fresh and the onion was the perfect thickness. Could taste the flavor of the meat and all the fresh vegetables. Kind of like an In n' Out Burger at more than twice the price. I like Duane's Ono Char Burger and recommend you stop by if you are driving down Kuhio Highway between Kapaa and Princeville. Don't expect the world but you will get a good burger.
