NATURE WAIKIKI

NATURE WAIKIKI
413 SEASIDE AVE
HONOLULU, HI

Really liked the look, feel, ambiance and staff at Nature Waikiki.  The restaurant and bar was rocking by the time we finished our almost three hour long tasting menu.  I went with the wine pairing and it was really enjoyable.  Great descriptions of each wine and they were all good.  Loved the Ahi Poke Tartare which was a one bite wonder.  Really couldn't taste the Scallop in the Scallop Tartare.  The Caviar Turnip is where the wheels came off on this dinner for me.  When you ate the Caviar with the Turnip, the flavor of the Caviar was totally lost.  The Turnip alone was not doing it for me with flavor.  The raw Cauliflower didn't make sense to me.  The Ami Ebi which is a Shrimp was ok but lacked a lot of flavor.  Highlight was the Finger Lime with its small gels of lime.  The Abalone Risotto had very little Risotto and even less Abalone.  The entire dish was served under a dome of smoke which did little to elevate the taste.  Best part was the homemade Sourdough Bread and Butter which was absolutely delicious.  The Maui Venison Pate which was served by the Chef was beautiful and the Chef was also.  Didn't do much with flavor and I found it difficult to finish.  The Salmon with Eggplant lacked a lot of flavor and seasoning and again was difficult to finish.  Again the raw Mushrooms on the plate confused me.  The biggest disappointment was the Filet of Beef which was again served in a smoke dome that totally ruined the flavor of the beef.  All you could taste was the smoke which ruined a perfectly cooked steak.  At this point my wife who didn't like anything wanted to leave without trying the Mango Sake dessert.  I agreed.  Kills me to give my honest thoughts because I LOVED this restaurant, Chef and staff.  They were all smiling, nice and accommodating.  I will return to order off the Ala Carte menu.  My wife however said she is not going back.
