I had to do another post on JJ's Bistro in Kaimuki.  This is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Hawaii and a place where I love to eat and recommend to friends and visitors.  As stated in previous posts, JJ the owner and his family are some of the hardest working people on the Island.  They work what seems like a 24/7 schedule.  As you enter the restaurant the first thing you see is the display case filled with dozens of different pastries cooked by JJ.  Order lunch and it is cooked by JJ.  Order diner and yes, cooked by JJ.  I don't know how the man sleeps but I am so glad he is awake and cooking when we visit.  The food here is always top quality and excellent plus the prices are very fair for Honolulu.  For less than $25 you can get a four course meal complete with Soup or Salad, Appetizer, Entree and any dessert out of the display case.  That my friends is a bargain for lunch or dinner.  Probably one of the best dining deals in all of Honolulu.  On this visit had to try the Parisian appetizer ($7.95).  Duck Mousse with Truffle and Port Wine served with a small salad and JJ's homemade bread.  The taste was so delicious and smooth.  My only complaint is that I wanted more.  Maybe a gallon of this Mousse and a loaf of bread.  And throw in a nice bottle of wine and I would be in heaven.  For my entree I went with a dish that I have enjoyed a few times before at JJ's. The Lobster Pad Thai ($20.95) is one of my favorites along with JJ's Baked Opakapaka.  The Lobster Pad Thai features a nice Lobster Tail but it is the Pad Thai Noodles with the Citrus XO Sauce that makes me come back.  My Daughter without hesitation ordered the Baked Salmon Complete Meal ($24.70) and chose a Salad.  Seems like they allowed us to substitute the Mousse appetizer that I ordered with her meal as I don't think it was on the bill.  She loved the Salad and was almost licking the dressing off the plate.  After a few bites of her Salmon, my Daughter said "I love JJ's - this is really good Salmon".  When a fourteen year old orders Salmon and eats everything on her plate - it must be good.  I tried the Salmon and it was great.  A visit to JJ's would not be complete without their Chocolate Pyramid Cake.  The cake comes with your Complete Meal again making this a real bargain.  You don't only get the cake at JJ's, you also get a small dish of Creme Brûlée.  What a finish to a great meal.  Highly recommend JJ's and I already want to go back.

JJ FRENCH BAKERY AND BISTRO

JJ FRENCH BAKERY AND BISTRO
HONOLULU, HAWAII

I love JJ's and tonights dinner was a good reason why.  We had a great meal, great service and just a good time in a local neighborhood restaurant that just does it right.  One of our servers was the same girl that waited on us four years ago when she was only 15.  Now she is a student at the University of San Francisco and back in town to waitress during spring break.  You still bring your own bottle of wine and enjoy a no corkage fee plus great food.  We all ordered the four course meal ($24.95).  We had a coupon that we purchased that gave us 50% off our meal.  This made this dinner one of the best deals in Hawaii.  The soup was a crab and corn chowder.  Lots of crab and flavor of corn.  Kind of thin but very good starter.  Our appetizers were Escargot incrusted in bread which Keli consumed in about two seconds.  No one at the table got a taste of this dish because Keli loved it so much.  I never saw the escargot, but Keli said their were six.  I enjoyed the Lobster Avocado.  Lobster on a bed of french bread with Avocado and a little too much mayo.  Shirley had the Laotian Rock n' Roll which is a bit curry flavored veggies served with a nice salad.  My entree was the Opakapaka with Fettuccine. Perfectly cooked piece of fish served with the best pasta and spicy sauce.  I love this dish.  One of my favorite dishes in Hawaii.  Keli enjoyed the Baked Salmon and ate all of it.  How that for a 9 year old eating a whole dish of salmon.   I tried it and it was delicious.  Shirley enjoyed the clams with black squid ink linguine.  Light and flavorful.  She finished the entire plate and loved it.  Dessert was awesome.  Keli had her favorite chocolate pyramid and I had the chocolate raspberry cake.  Shirley had the double macaroon cake which was totally awesome.  chocolate mousse with macaroon and a thick chocolate topping.  This was fantastic.
