I love Assagio's.  Just a great place to enjoy lunch or dinner if you are in the mood for Italian food.  While the prices at the Kahala Bistro seem to be getting higher, the quality of the food, great service and portion size keep me coming back.  The first thing you get after water at Assagio's is fresh, warm homemade bread.  The small loaves of love keep coming throughout your meal if you want them.  I think the wait staff asked us a dozen times if we wanted more bread.  We ALWAYS start with the Cold Antipasto Salad ($9.90).  This is probably my favorite salad ever on this blog.  Love the Pickled Vegetables, Cheese, Anchovies and Dressing.  Only complaint on this visit was that there was not much Romaine Lettuce.  I tried the Veal and Shrimp Piccata ($32.90) and liked everything about it except the price.  The Veal was lightly breaded and had a nice flavor.  Loved the Pasta which I requested with garlic and spice.  Shrimp were cooked perfectly and tasty.  The Shrimp and Chicken Picante ($31.90) was "spicy" as advertised.  My wife asked for some vegetables with the pasta and the waiter was happy to provide it.  She liked the dish but said the Chicken did not have much flavor.
My daughter picked the Lasagna ($22.90) after looking at the menu for about 30 seconds.  When the dish arrived I thought it was huge.  Still paying $23 for a piece of Lasagna seems a bit expensive to me.  My daughter devoured the layers of pasta but said there was too much cheese and sauce.  I tasted it and thought it was great.  Service on this night was fantastic.  Water glasses were filled when only half empty, plenty of bread offered and the staff checked on our table numerous times.  Really cannot go wrong at Assagio's.  Just wish the prices were lower but I understand the cost of doing business in Hawaii.  Click link below for previous post on Assagio's Kahala Bistro:

ASSAGIO'S BISTRO - KAHALA

ASSAGIO'S BISTRO
KAHALA, HAWAII

I have always enjoyed Assagio's and have really never had a bad meal at any of their restaurants.  I normally order the Chicken and Vegetable Linguine and Cold Antipasto Salad even though they have dozens of other great dishes on the menu.  This time I started with Cold Antipasto Salad ($9.90). This is one of my all-time favorite salads served in Hawaii.  Prosciutto, Salami, Cheese, Anchovies, Marinated Vegetables and Olives served on a bed of Romaine Lettuce with Home Made Vinaigrette Dressing.  I love the cheese and anchovies and am addicted to the marinated vegetables and home made dressing.  Wish I had the recipe for the marinated vegetables and dressing.  Really my favorites!  I changed up my main course this time and tried the Osso Bucco and Shrimp Scallop Alla Bolla ($31.90).  The Braised Veal Shank with onions, garlic and lightly seasoned tomato sauce was delicious.  Especially when you mix the Veal Shank into the bland pasta served on the plate.  The Shrimp and Scallops were cooked perfectly but it was the Veal Shank mixed into the pasta that made the dish.  The Shrimp Assagio ($25.90) was a huge plate that looked like a mess.  Jumbo Shrimp pan fried in light olive oil, garlic, pepperocini, roasted red peppers, capers, olives, mushrooms and White Wine Butter Sauce.  With all this going on the plate I was very surprised to hear my wife say that the pasta had no taste.  The Pasta with Meat Sauce ($16.90 small) is way overpriced.  17 bucks for a small plate of pasta.  C'mon now this is a rip.  Our overall impression of Assagio's Bistro in Kahala is that the food quality is top notch but for some reason the taste has gone down over the years.  I will always return and make it a point to try new things.
