Got a rare opportunity to have an unplanned lunch with my Daughter when her school called and said she was sick.  With a 102.7 temperature I rushed her directly to our local doctor.  He was out for lunch so we had an hour to kill around lunch time.  Walked over to Lobster King where we found the place pretty crowded with mostly Chinese people enjoying Chinese food.  Looking around at the place I felt like I was back in China.  There are hand written menu boards on the walls showing daily specials.  When they are out, they get erased.  Fresh Crab Soup, Oysters, Lobster and Abalone were a few of the specials on this day.  My Daughter wanted Soup so we ordered the standard Won Ton Soup (8.95).  The Soup was filled with Won Tons and a few nice pieces of Pork Char Sui.  Nice flavor and enough for two or three people.  The Young Chow Fried Rice ($8.95) was also good and included Vegetables, Egg, Shrimp and Char Sui.  The Sweet and Sour Pork ($13.95) with Onions, Bell Pepper and Carrots was excellent.  Looking at other dishes coming out of the kitchen, I definitely want to return.  On a previous visit here I remember not liking the place too much but now I like it and want to return again to try a few dozen more menu items.  This was a lot of food and we had plenty of leftovers to take home for dinner.

LOBSTER KING - HONOLULU, HAWAII

LOBSTER KING
HONOLULU, HAWAII

Finally had a chance to try the Lobster King on the corner of Keeamoku and King Streets.  The place always looks busy since they opened a few months back.  I have read a lot reviews about Lobster King and most were good.  I was surprised that the menu included everything Chinese and Shabu Shabu. The Chinese menu is very extensive and offers all the standard fare including Noodles, Sizzling Platters, Pork, Vegetables, Seafood, Beef and Chicken dishes.  You can get a lobster for $11.99 if you order any other entree off the menu.  Not a bad deal for a fresh 1 pound plus lobster.  We started with the Young Chow Fried Rice ($5.99).  This was a large plate of fried rice filled with vegetables, meats and baby shrimp.  The rice was light and fluffy.  The waiter asked if we wanted to try some vegetables.  We said sure and added some Choi Sum to our order.  The Choi Sum was cooked in oil and Oyster Sauce and was delicious.  Only problem was the price.  When I got the bill we saw that the plate of vegetables was $9.95.  I could not believe this price.  Way too high when you can get a lobster for $12.  Now to the Lobster.  Our two lobsters were served on a single dish.  The kitchen cuts the lobster into bite size pieces which makes it pretty easy to eat.  The lobster is served with the House Special Sauce that they said included garlic and green onion.  It was pretty bland and includes a ton of corn starch.  The sauce needs more garlic and a kick.  If this place could add a hot and spicy version, I think they would have a huge hit.  I liked the lobster despite the dull flavor of the sauce.  We also tried the Mu-Shu Pork ($10.75).  The waiter took the time to place the Mu-shu in the tortilla like things and made up some nice burritos.  We were so full with the lobster that we barely put a dent in the Mu-Shu Pork.  I liked the Lobster King and will return again.
