MANNEKEN BELGIAN WAFFLE

Strolling through Ginza is cool. Tons of high end shopping, beautiful architecture and some great places to snack and eat. I saw a line in front of Manneken and after looking at a photo showing a Waffle covered in caramel in joined the line a got one. Simply stated it was warm and oh so delicious. Kind of like a Maple donut.

SHIBUYA

Shibuya is one of my favorite areas of Tokyo to walk, eat and people watch. This is one of the cities main hubs for shopping and entertainment plus a hangout for the young fashion oriented people of Japan and it should not be missed. Every visit to Shibuya should include a visit to the Hachiko Dog Statue that greets you as you exit the subway station. After paying our respects to Hachiko, we ventured down the many streets and alleys that make Shibuya one of my favorite places. Enjoyed a few beef skewers during our walk through this exciting and vibrant area.

Hachiko, was an Akita dog that belonged to a professor at the University of Tokyo. Every day he would meet his master at Shibuya Station until one day in 1925 when the professor never returned. Unbeknownst to Hachiko, his master had suffered a fatal brain hemorrhage and would never come home again. But there Hachiko sat, day after day, waiting in vain for the return of his beloved master. The story of the dog that never gave up gained a lot of attention from local and national news, inspiring many people to visit Hachiko at Shibuya Station to offer treats. The story eventually spread throughout the world and a Hollywood film starring Richard Gere was even made based on Hachiko’s story.

I stopped into a little Pub somewhere off a main street in Shibuya while my girls shopped. I am not a big shopper or one that can roam around department stores so grabbing a brew at a local spot was the answer. After less than one beer my girls returned and decided to have dinner here. The place was empty when I arrived but within a few minutes filled to capacity. Service was good even though the workers did not speak much english. Food was great. Only complaint is that this restaurant allowed smoking and the smoke was everywhere including our noses and food. Other than that this was a great little spot in Shibuya.
