Visiting the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum was a very personal experience that made me do a lot of thinking about life, war, humanity and death.  To view the exhibits and especially the individual photographs of those that died from the Atomic Bomb shook me at my core.  So many young beautiful lives destroyed.  Moms, Dads, Grandparents, Brothers, Sisters, Friends and family gone in literally a flash.  Thousands more who died a slower and more painful death that I could not even imagine.  The power of nuclear weapons is enormous and I truly believe that everything should be done to make sure a day like August 6, 1945.

Next to the Motoyashi Bridge adjacent to the Atomic Bomb Dome there is a small sidewalk cafe that also serves ice cream.  We grabbed a scoop during our tour of the Peace Memorial.

OKONOMIYAKI IN HIROSHIMA - JAPAN

OKONOMIYAKI IN HIROSHIMA

Okonomiyaki is a Japanese pancake like dish containing a wide variety of fresh ingredients.  In Hiroshima the ingredients are layered rather than mixed.  Typically using a batter, cabbage, pork, squid, shrimp, noodles, egg and a generous amount of Okonomiyaki Sauce.  In Hiroshima they use more cabbage which I like.  The end product is lighter and fresher than what we have tried in Hawaii and to my surprise i finished the entire dish.  It was just too good to leave on the plate.  This was a great meal enjoyed in a very typical and local Okonomiyaki bar where Hiroshima locals eat and drink.  The bar plays tribute to the Hiroshima Carps Baseball Team, the patrons are young and the beer is cold.  Great place!
