A good friend who lives near Lourdes in San Diego highly recommended we have breakfast there before leaving North County.  He said the Machaca Plate was the absolute best for breakfast.  We arrived when the opened at 9:00 am and there were already a few people ordering.  The Machaca Plate with Avocado did not disappoint.  Delicious Shredded Beef with Eggs, Onion and Peppers.  Served with Rice, Beans and Tortillas.  Made up some delicious little burritos and was very happy with this meal.  My Daughter absolutely loved and devoured the Carne Asada Plate.  She darn near finished everything on the plate.  My Wife liked the Carne Asada Burrito but once again said that Juanitas was better.  We all enjoyed Lourdes and will return again.

Fidel's was my go to Mexican restaurant back in the day when I lived in Cardiff by the Sea and Encinitas.  Remember eating here whenever I could afford it and it was really cheap back then.  While the prices have risen, the restaurant itself has not changed much in over 30 years.  The food unfortunately has changed for the worse.  Really not satisfied on this visit.  While the service was good and the portions large, the flavors that I remember were missing.  The Chips and Salsa were spot on and delicious like I remember.  Love the salsa here and it is amongst my most favorite of all Mexican restaurants.  I ordered a Shredded Beef Taco and Chicken Tostada.  The Taco was ok but the meat lacked flavor.  The Tostada was large but it just was impossible to pick up as it fell apart from the weight and moisture from the refried beans.  Chicken had some taste but overall was pretty bland meal.  The Chicken Taquitos were good and served with a huge scoop of delicious Guacamole.

Point Loma Seafoods was highly recommended by several friends who live in San Diego so we stopped in for lunch during our vacation.  The place was jam packed and looked great.  The Lighthouse theme, waterfront location and fresh seafood was all perfect until we got the food.  This was one of the worst meals of our lives I kid you not.  Everything sucked with the exception of the fresh Crab California Roll that my Daughter devoured in seconds.  The Clam Chowder should be called Potato Chowder because it was mostly potatoes.  Chowder was pretty bland and there was no Clam flavor.  The Ceviche was soaked in Lemon or Lime Juice and it was overpowering.  We did not eat any of it after one taste.  Most disappointing was the $16 Dungenss Crab Sandwich.  My goodness this was terrible.  First off they smear some of the Crab and Mayo on white bread and thats it.  The most disappointing and lousy $16 sandwich ever.  After a few small bites this was in the trash too.  This was a terrible meal.  Biggest waste of money on our trip.  Totally disappointed with the flavor of the food and high prices.  While many people rave about Point Loma Seafoods, I don't think I would ever want to go back.

A traditional breakfast was not on our minds while in San Diego.  We were craving Huevos Rancheros or a Shredded Beef Machaca Plate for breakfast when a friend invited us to meet him at the 100 Diner in Encinitas.  One look at the menu and I knew we would not get our Mexican fix so I gravitated towards the Eggs Benedict and found one that had a Mexican twist.  Ham and Avocado with a Cilantro/Jalapeño Hollandaise Sauce.  In a quest to be healthy, I ordered with Fresh Tomato rather than Potatoes.  Wow...one bite and I forgot about my Machaca Plate.  This Eggs Benedict was really good and satisfying.  The Tomatoes were so fresh they were like eating candy.  So good.  My Wife went for the Carnitas Eggs Benedict with Chipotle Hollandaise and loved it too.  These Egg Benedicts are among the best anywhere and highly recommended.  My Daughter loved her French Toast with Fresh Strawberries so this was a winner for the entire family.

Our family does not eat many burgers but rest assured if we are on the mainland we are going to have at least one In N' Out Burger.  Hands down the best burgers on the planet for $2.70.  Consistently delicious and so satisfying.
