THE LAST SUPPER LOCATION - JERUSALEM, ISRAEL

 THE LAST SUPPER
JERUSALEM, ISRAEL

To enter the room where Jesus and his disciples had the Last Supper on Mount Zion was amazing.  Seeing the actual locations and places where Jesus lived his life began to hit me hard.  While this place is a bit underwhelming and basically a room from a different time it is said to be the location where the Last Supper took place.

GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE - JERUSALEM, ISRAEL

 GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE
JERUSALEM, ISRAEL

Being in the garden where Jesus prayed to his Father while his disciples slept just hours before his crucifixion gave me goose bumps and brought me to tears.  The thought that I was standing at this site touched me deeply and really brought to reality what we were experiencing in the Holy Land.  We would walk the steps of Jesus and relive his story, the miracles and sacrifice.

MOUNT OF OLIVES - JERUSALEM, ISRAEL

MOUNT OF OLIVES
JERUSALEM, ISRAEL

Since we were a day late arriving in Israel due to an airline delay, we arrived after almost two days in the air and waiting at airport.  No showers and so tired.  Our guide met us at the airport and we began driving to Old Jerusalem.  We asked to be taken directly to our hotel so we could shower.  He said ok but it would put our tour behind schedule.  He said his experience is that once we hit the hotel we will not want to tour that day.  We agreed to start our Israel tour directly from the airport which meant our first stop was the Mount of Olives.  What an amazing view of Old Jerusalem with its massive wall and ancient buildings and streets.  To see the gate where Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey really gave us an understanding of what we were going to experience the next few days in Israel and the Holy City.  The view is amazing and we just took it in while our guide told us a little about the history of Old Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives.

Note:  We booked this private tour with Holy Land Private Tours who is a licensed Tour Guide in Israel.  Highly recommend this company and the owner who's name is Ofir.  Ofir is not cheap but he is worth it if you want a very knowledgeable, professional and on time guide who is passionate about Israel and its incredible history.  The guy is amazing with his knowledge of the history and stories of the Holy Land, Bible and Middle East.

HONOLULU TO TEL AVIV, ISRAEL - UNITED AIRLINES

HONOLULU TO TEL AVIV, ISRAEL
UNITED AIRLINES

What an adventure getting to Israel via United Airlines.  Flight started nicely in the United Lounge in Honolulu,  Service and food here have been greatly updated and now includes free Champagne.  With a little Bubbly and some snacks we were ready for the five hour flight to San Francisco.  We literally had one hour to get to our plane and check in for our flight to Tel Aviv.  Everything was fine and we were in our seats with a glass of Champagne in hand.  Time went on and we were told they needed someone to sign off on a repair before we could takeoff.  We waited over an hour on the ground when the Captain informed us we were cleared.  We taxied out and came to a stop.  Waited again.  The Captain came back on and informed us that a passenger was ill and that the plane would have to return to the ramp to let the passenger off.  We went back to the ramp.  After a few minutes the Captain came back on and said that because of regulations the crew could not fly the aircraft because they would exceed their flight hours for a 24 hour period.  The delays caused the plane to be cancelled.  Bare in mind this was like 1:30 am in the morning.  The next flight out would be the next day at 8:00 am.  United informed us to go to the ticket counters.  We were offered a voucher for a night stay at a local hotel.  But it was now like 2:30 am and leaving the airport and returning would be maybe a two hour sleep and travel to and from the hotel. They were offering meal vouchers also but when the agent learned I was able to use the United Lounge she said the food was better there and did not give us vouchers.  Turns out the lounge did not open until the next day at 7:30 am.  The plane was leaving at 8:00 am.  We ended up trying to sleep in the baggage claim area from that point forward.  Just miserable.  Flight to Tel Aviv was pretty smooth.  Food was ok but typical United Service where they basically go through the motions and disappear.  They did hand us a bottle of water so they would not have to pour water during the flight.  Just sucks when you pay or use miles to upgrade and the service is so lousy.  United does not understand or care to teach customer service like Asian or European airlines.  There is no comparison and United always comes up short.

DONER SHACK FOOD TRUCK

DONER SHACK FOOD TRUCK
HONOLULU, HAWAII

Enjoyed dinner at the Doner Shack Food Truck which was parked in front of our State Capitol during the Make-A-Wish Rock n' Run.  The Mediterranean Salad ($10) with Lamb was delicious.  Loved the flavor of the Lamb and the Yogurt Garlic Sauce.  Great salad that the entire family liked.  Would definitely order this again.  The Burrito ($9) with Lamb was good but the Tortilla was not good.  Entire family took a few bites and everyone went back to the salad.  I will be looking for this food truck again and will order the Mediterranean Salad with Lamb.
