Another memorable Fujitsu television commercial starring Kansei Matsuzawa "The Tokyo Toe" premiered in Hawaii on Super Bowl Sunday. The spot starred Kansei, Keli the Fujitsu Girl, Kanoa Leahey, Rich Miano and the University of Hawaii Cheerleaders. Getting Kansei to appear was a journey that started with Rich Miano reaching out to him and then putting Drew Santos from Admor HVAC Products in touch with Kansei's Agent in Los Angeles.
Prior to this Drew and his family was having a sushi dinner with his family, Keli and several of Keli's friends. We all were trying to dream up the next Fujitsu commercial and were sharing ideas and storylines. Keli's friend Maddy started talking about The Tokyo Toe as he was the talk of the town going into the end of the football season. We talked about having Kansei say the line "I Love my Fujitsu" and then having cheerleaders cheering. It was an idea but we did not have a script. Drew reached out to Rich Miano, Kanoa Leahey, Greg Salas and Craig Pitner from KHNL/KGMB with the idea over dinner at the Capitol Grill in Honolulu. They brainstormed over some nice steaks and wine and the next day Craig had a script. The script was tweaked a few times and then we had to find a football field to film at. The University of Hawaii was out due to some kind of red tape and NIL rules. Rich Miano reached out to several high schools and lucky for us, Farrington High School allowed us to film on their field. Preparations went fast like in lightning speed with Greg Salas working with a friend to get all of the shirts printed in the right color and sizes for the shoot. Next came getting everyone to align their schedules to do the shoot. Many dates came and went due to this person or the cheerleaders not being able to make it. Finally everyone including Kansei settled on a date and time to film the commercial. Then boom....a huge storm hit and shut down the filming. This was right during the busy holiday season and the Hawaii Bowl so if we could not get it done in the next few days, Kansei would be off to Los Angeles. We got it done and the commercial came out great. Cannot thank Kansei, Rich, Kanoa, Keli, Greg, the Cheerleaders and Farrington High School enough for helping making this happen.
