I am a die hard Hawaiian Airlines Mileage Member and fly them more than any other Island by far.  While I love the airline, I have often not been a fan of the food or service.  The service never seems to be at the level of Asian or International carriers.  In fact, many times it is terrible with Flight Attendants talking in the galley and on their phones most of the flight.  Basic low level service is now expected.  THIS ALL CHANGED WITH "MATTY".  A Flight Attendant who gets it and provides service beyond expectations.  From the time we boarded tis flight, Matty was on fire.  Filling drinks and engaging passengers in conversation.  During the flight he continued to make sure your drinks were full and that you were happy.  This is unheard of on Hawaiian where I often go the entire flight without anyone filling a drink or providing water.  Matty was on it the entire flight.  This guy should be cloned and used for training all Hawaiian Flight Attendants.  Matty showed what Hawaiian Airlines could be if they had more people like him.

Enjoyed the lay flat seating enclosed pod and service on this Hawaiian Airlines flight to San Francisco.  The food however again disappointed.  Seems like they have been serving the same dishes for years.  Nothing ever changes.  Not even the Mac Nuts given after takeoff and the single small cookie before landing.  Has to be one of the worst First Class experiences in all the skies.  It is to a point where I bring my own food and snacks in First Class.  I ordered the Cheese Plate from Coach the past two flights.  First time they charged me.  Lucky they didn't charge me on this flight.  On the return flight I brought McDonalds.  C'mon Hawaiian Airlines - up your game, food and snacks in First Class.  The seats are not cheap and you have many loyal travelers complaining flight after flight.

I am a die hard Hawaiian Airlines customer, but am getting fed up with the lousy food and service in First Class.  The food is horrible and the service is below even United now.  The Flight Attendants prefer to sit in the galley talking rather than take care of the customers.  They provide the minimal level service that they can get away with on most flights and rarely offer water or drink refills.  Oh..how I wish they could fly on Japan, JAL, Korean, Singapore, Lufthansa or other airlines that really understand customer service. Really fed up with the food too.  On this flight the Braised Beef Brisket was ruined with Curry and and overload of Furakake on top of the meat.  If you want to absolutely ruin the flavor of good pork, just cover it up with a ton of Furakake.  This was so bad.  My Wife tried the Pumpkin with Couscous and it was flavorless.  I tried the Pumpkin and it was terrible.  No seasoning whatsoever.  Best part of the meal was the Taro Roll with Butter.  Oh but to make things great in first class, they passed out a small bag of snack crackers at the end of the flight.  How nice.  These are the same snacks they serve on InterIsland flights.  C'mon Hawaiian, you can do much better than this.  Hopefully Alaska Airlines will up the game and bring real First Class service to Hawaiian. #pissed #nothappy

Readers of this blog know I am a huge fan of Hawaiian Airlines.  Fly them often and always feel like they have the best service especially in First Class.  My frequent flyer miles afford me some upgrades at times especially when I am flying solo back to the Mainland.  On this trip I got a bump going to California but went Coach and the return.  Suffice to say the first flight was much more enjoyable than the second.  Hawaiian always offers up Champagne when in First Class.  The pour and number of pours before takeoff always depends on the crew.  Sometimes you get a gem that understands customer service and others you get a guy or gal who really does not like their job and just goes through the motions.  On this trip I got the guy who went through the motions.  At one point he came by and filled our champagne glasses with white wine.  Actually mixed the two beverages in one glass.  I told him that he poured white wine into the champagne and he shrugged and walked off.  Both him and his female partner on this trip probably provided the worst First Class service I have ever experienced on Hawaiian.  The food in First Class is hit or miss with the Chef Chai menus.  Chai is trying to cook healthy which is good.  On this trip there was a choice of Chicken or a Vegetable Terrine.  I went with the Chicken which looked like someone threw it up before serving it to me.  The  potatoes and vegetables were fresh and very lightly seasoned.  Prior to the entree I tried the Vegetable Potstickers.  Not much filling and very bland.  But I am sure it was healthy.  This meal was a lot better than the coach meal coming back.  That consisted of fresh fruit, one slice of cheese, cracker and one chocolate covered macadamia nut along with water.  Hey, not complaining.  Most airlines do not provide a meal in Coach.  Hawaiian at least gives you something and a free glass of wine in Coach.  Hawaiian Flies the Airbus 330 from Hawaii to the Mainland.  This is a nice plane that holds a lot of people.  Sitting in coach is tight.  I upgraded to a Bulkhead for an extra $40.  Well worth it for the room but on this trip my Bulkhead seat was adjacent to the bathroom.  Non stop people in the aisle and non stop sounds and smells.  Not the best place to sit for five hours.  Hey I am not complaining.  Lucky to travel and visit family and friends.  Just calling it like I see and smell it.
