HAWAIIAN AIRLINES - HONOLULU TO SAN FRANCISCO

Nice to see Hawaiian Airlines changed up the Chef for their First Class service.  Problem is however, is that the food got worse if you can believe that.  This food was horrible proving once again that Hawaiian just cannot get their First Class food or service right.  So depressing as this is our "go to" airline for flying to and from Hawaii.

I am a die hard Hawaiian Airlines customer, but am getting fed up with the lousy food and service in First Class.  The food is horrible and the service is below even United now.  The Flight Attendants prefer to sit in the galley talking rather than take care of the customers.  They provide the minimal level service that they can get away with on most flights and rarely offer water or drink refills.  Oh..how I wish they could fly on Japan, JAL, Korean, Singapore, Lufthansa or other airlines that really understand customer service. Really fed up with the food too.  On this flight the Braised Beef Brisket was ruined with Curry and and overload of Furakake on top of the meat.  If you want to absolutely ruin the flavor of good pork, just cover it up with a ton of Furakake.  This was so bad.  My Wife tried the Pumpkin with Couscous and it was flavorless.  I tried the Pumpkin and it was terrible.  No seasoning whatsoever.  Best part of the meal was the Taro Roll with Butter.  Oh but to make things great in first class, they passed out a small bag of snack crackers at the end of the flight.  How nice.  These are the same snacks they serve on InterIsland flights.  C'mon Hawaiian, you can do much better than this.  Hopefully Alaska Airlines will up the game and bring real First Class service to Hawaiian. #pissed #nothappy

I am a die hard Hawaiian Airlines fan and frequent flyer.  For all the things I love about Hawaiian Airlines, there is one thing that continues to frustrate me.  It is the service in First Class.  Far behind other international carriers in food and service.  On this flight the crew opted to stay behind the curtains in the galley and talk the entire flight.  It was like they could care less about the customers.  They did the minimum required during meal service, but other than that they hid out.  I had the nerve to ask one of the Flight Attendants for a favor and he immediately shut me down with an attitude.  "Sorry I asked" I said to him and walked away.

Food never impresses either.  The Salad served had almost no dressing and the Cous Cous had absolutely no flavor.  The Beef however was moist and flavorful.  

UPDATE:  The return flight from Phoenix to Honolulu had GREAT service.  The two woman working First Class were on it!  Always checking on customers and offering drinks and refills.  Superb service with all smiles.  What a difference from the flight over.

Loved our upgraded flight from Honolulu to Los Angeles on Hawaiian Airlines.  They have a new system where they let you bid for first class upgrades a few days prior to your flight.  I put in a number and kaboom all three of us got upgrades.  Did not work on the way back though so we were back in Coach Plus.  This flight was great with exception of the breakfast.  The Mushroom Frittata was horrible.  Nobody liked or ate the rock.  Service was exceptional with the Flight Attendants keeping my champagne an wine glasses full the entire flight.  Watched some decent movies too.

Several days prior to our departure to San Diego, we received an email from Hawaiian Air asking if we would like to bid for an upgrade from Economy to First Class.  Being that there was three of us I did not think we all could get upgraded so I put in a bid for the upgrade.  Very surprised to get an email a day or two later that said we had all been upgraded for the added fee bid.  I liked this so I put in a bid on our return trip from Los Angeles to Honolulu using the same amount of money.  Did not get the upgrade on the return flight but the flight to San Diego was First Class thanks to the bid system.  The food on the flight was fantastic.  I enjoyed the Jidori Chicken Salad and Ground Beef and Pork Sausage Meatloaf.  Super delicious and I could have eaten another portion of each.  Loved it.  My girls both enjoyed the Cold Tofu Salad and Vegetarian Lasagna.  They said the Tofu Salad was amongst the best they have ever tasted and said they would order both dishes in a restaurant.  Flight was smooth and comfortable and I enjoyed watching a few movies; "Churchill" and "My Hit Man's Bodyguard".  Enjoyed both movies and the wine!
