Not too impressed with Pineapple Grill on this visit. I like the restaurant which is located on the Bay Course of Kapalua Resort but the food this time missed the mark. We started with the Trio of Ahi Poke Tacos ($14.95). At $5 each these mini tacos were expensive. The Ahi however was fresh and delicious. "Awesome" was the word that comes to mind. The Kalua Pork Potstickers ($14.95) were a huge disappointment. The Kalua Pork was terrible and everyone at the table agreed that these were not good. Everyone at our table wanted a steak so we all ordered the Charbroiled Vintage Rib Eye Steak ($42.95). This was the thinnest most tasteless piece of meat I have tasted in years. Lacked size and seasoning. At forty three bucks I wanted more meat and more flavor. This thin piece of meat was not worth $10. Really came away from this dinner unsatisfied and feeling that the prices were totally out of line for the quality of food. I apologize for the blurry menu photos. For some reason I fail to take time to focus. I was going to delete them but thought it would be better to just leave them so people can view the menu. Our group from the Hyundai Tournament jumped on a free shuttle from the golf course to the Pineapple Grille in Kapalua. We were seated near the bar and given the Grill Menu. The actual dining section serves a completely different menu and has panoramic views of Kapalua. We don't know why we were seated at the bar. Just might have been the time we arrived. We ordered a bunch of dishes for the table and a few individual entrees. The Furakake Crusted Calamari ($12.95) was good but I am not a big Furakake fan. The Calamari however were large and flavorful. I loved the Shiitake Mushroom Pork Hash Spring Rolls ($9.95). Among the best Spring Rolls I have had in Hawaii. Loved them! The Crab Cakes ($13.95) were crusty as billed. They were full of lump crab meat and very good. The Onion Rings ($6.95) were standard. The Pistachio and Wasabi Sashimi ($17.95) was a bit expensive but perfectly prepared and delicious. Not pictured are the Pineapple Grille Burger ($12.95) and Chicken Sandwich ($13.95). My friends loved these items and both substituted Truffle Fries for the standard french fries. This is a $1.00 up charge that is certainly worth the price. The Pineapple Grill Truffle Fries are to die for. Simply delicious. Full of truffle flavor that explodes in your mouth. If you like truffles, the Truffle Fries here are a must. I tried the Portuguese Bean Soup ($7.95). This was the most bland and tasteless soup I have ever had. Soup out of a can would be better than this. The soup was lacking something to add flavor. Maybe salt? The Fish and Chips ($13.95) were delicious. Again, everyone opted for the Truffle Fries. The fish was lightly battered and nice tasting. This is a great spot to enjoy a cocktail and pupu's in Kapalua. I will put this on my must do list every time I visit Kapalua.
