This is by far my favorite Banh Mi in Hawaii.  Have not tasted anything better.  The Special Sandwich at Ba-Le Hawaii Kai is amazing.  I order mine with American Cheese, extra Pickled Vegetables and no Mayo.  The Meats, Pate, Vegetables and Bread combine for the perfect combination of flavors and textures.  Add a bit of Sriracha Sauce and you have sandwich perfection.  Love the Pho at Ba-Le too.  Always nice to enjoy on cooler evenings in Hawaii.

Ba-Le Sandwich is sometimes good, sometimes bad and this time GREAT!  Probably the best Banh Mi I have ever had at Ba-Le and believe me,  I have eaten dozens of them.  What made this one special is that everything was fresh.  First off the bread was perfect and soft on the inside with a light crunch on the outside.  The meats were fresh and the Pate was abundant and super fresh.  I think I just caught them on a good day when everything was made fresh this day.  Oh if only every Ba-Le Special Sandwich could taste like this.  Truly one of the best Banh Mi sandwiches I have ever eaten at Ba-Le.

LUNCH AT THE OFFICE

We cannot get a good Sub, Hoagie or Italian Sandwich in Hawaii but we can get a good Vietnamese Bahn Mi.  This is probably one of my favorite sandwiches and Ba-Le does it better than just about anyone.  I always order the Special Sandwich with Cheese.  No Mayo, extra veggies with Sriracha Sauce.  When the bread is fresh (and it was not today) this is an epic sandwich.  Even though the bread was a bit hard and crusty the ingredients were delicious.

The Ba-Le Special Sandwich is one of my favorite sandwiches in Hawaii.  I order it with American Cheese, no mayo and extra pickled vegetables.  Add lots of Sriracha Sauce for heat and flavor.         So good when the bread is warm and fresh.

I miss not having a good sandwich shop in Hawaii.  Really hard to find a good Italian or Poor Boy type sandwich on the Islands.  What we do have however is a Vietnamese restaurant called Ba-Le that serves up some super good Banh Mi Sandwiches.  I love the Ba-Le Special Sandwich.  I order it with American Cheese, No Mayo and extra pickled vegetables.  The sandwich contains Ham, Headcheese, Pork and Pate.  The Pate puts this sandwich over the top for me.  I always add lots of Sriracha Sauce.  The Pickled Vegetables (Daikon and Carrots) add a great crunch and the Cilantro adds a fresh pop.  So delicious when the bread and warm.   This is one of my favorite sandwiches in Hawaii and I probably eat too many of them.

Readers of his blog know that I crave a good Italian Sandwich, Sub or Hoagie.  Fact is that there just is not a good Sub Shop anywhere on the Island.  We do however have some very good Vietnamese Sandwiches served up at Ba-Le Sandwich Shops all over Oahu.  My go to sandwich at Ba-Le is the Special Sandwich with Cheese - no mayo and extra vegetables ($7.70).  I top the sandwich with lots of Sriracha Sauce and the flavor is pure heaven.  I love the pickled carrots and daikon in the sandwich.  They add so much flavor and crunch.  The meats are a mystery to me.  Never have asked whats in the sandwich.  There is what looks like ham and what makes this sandwich for me is a nice slice of Pate. The Pate is creamy and so good. My other favorites are Pho and Summer Rolls.  Probably have a bowl of Pho at least once a month from Ba-Le.  Love the broth and flavor especially on a cooler Hawaiian day.
