FISH ON THE ROCKS - SOUTH AFRICA

FISH ON THE ROCKS

Fish on the Rocks is a gem.  Great food and incredible location.  Hands down the absolute best Fish and Chips I have ever eaten in my life.  The fresh fish was spectacular.  Lightly battered and a flavor that would make me eat fried fish every week.  LOVED THIS PLACE!  One of my favorite meals in all of South Africa.

BISTRO MOLOKINI - GRAND WAILEA RESORT, MAUI

BISTRO MOLOKINI
GRAND WAILEA RESORT
WAILEA, MAUI

The Grand Wailea Resort is really "Grand" and so are the prices.  There are limited dining options for such a big hotel.  Once of the most popular and less costly places to enjoy lunch, dinner or cocktails and pupu's.  I was in there last night and enjoyed some nice wine and sushi.  For lunch we ordered the Fish Tacos ($18).  Three tacos with Mahi Mahi, Napa Cabbage and a pineapple salsa.  Served with chips out of a bag.  I did not much care for these tacos.  Pretty bland.  The Margherita Pizza with a twist ($15) was your standard sauce, tomato and basil and then topped with green onion and chili oil.  I only ate one slice.  There was really too much cheese for me. The big winner at the table was the Kids Fish n' Chips ($12).  Lightly fried Mahi Mahi fillets served with some really good French Fries.  The service and view were great.  Only wished I would have ordered something different.

HENRY'S PUB AND RESTAURANT - SAN DIEGO, CA

HENRY'S PUB AND RESTAURANT
SAN DIEGO, CA

San Diego has a vibrant Gaslamp District located downtown.  The streets are lined with restaurants, bars and sidewalk cafes.  The baseball stadium for the San Diego Padres is located in this area and on Game Day, the fans fill the restaurants and bars prior to the game.  We ended up at Henry's Pub for no specific reason.  We just saw a table outside that would accommodate four of us.  We had a great waitress named Ashley.  She kept our drinks coming and was always positive.  We started with a Tomato and Basil Pizza ($11.50).  Nice size pie that I thought would be bad because it had a thicker crust.  Turns out the fresh tomato, basil and cheese was pretty darn good.  I ordered the Chicken Enchilada Bowl ($6.50).  I thought it would be an enchilada of some sort.  Turned out to be the best Enchilada Soup I have ever tasted.  This was the total bomb delicious.  At $6.50 it is bargain.  I was surprised that this was listed as the Chef's Specialty in an Irish type Pub, but boy they were right on.  Simple delicious soup filled with large chunks of chicken and tortilla strips.  My friend ordered the Salmon Fish and Chips.  Standard Fish and Chips done with Salmon.  He seemed to like it.  I tried a piece and found it to be very "fishy".  The Chips were good.  My Buddies seem to enjoy the Chicken Wraps and Fries.  This was a great place to spend time with friends and people watch on 5th Avenue.  After the meal we walked over to the stadium and enjoyed the game.

TODD ENGLISH PUB - LAS VEGAS

TODD ENGLISH PUB
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

Todd English Pub is located just outside the front desk at the Aria Resort in Las Vegas.  This is the celebrated chef's latest venture into pub food which is quite different than his fine dining establishments.  The Pub is quite large with a huge bar and "Raw" bar that features the freshest seafood available.  We tried a half dozen of the Little Neck Clams ($16.50 or $2.75 each) and a half dozen West Coast Oysters ($19.50 or $3.25 each).  These were some of the best clams and oysters I have ever tasted.  So fresh and delicious.  Topped with a little horseradish and Seafood Sauce.  AWESOME!  The Prime Rib Chili ($7) sounded great on the menu but tasted pretty weak.  My friend said it tasted like Hormel brand out of a can.  The Beef Sliders ($14) were served with grilled onions.  I added some of the Todd English homemade ketchup and enjoyed them.  The Fish and Chips ($19) was lightly battered and perfectly cooked.  Served with Fries and some funky type of cole slaw.  The Cole Slaw served with the Lobster Rolls ($24) was a lot better.  The Lobster Rolls are very buttery and mostly or all claw meat from the lobster.  Really good, but I could only eat one.  I would go back to the Todd English Pub just for the Oysters and Clams.
