AHI POKE

APPETIZER AT HOME

After tasting some good Poke on the Big Island, I decided to make my own with a beautiful block of fresh Ahi.  My Wife and Daughter love a sweet shoyu sauce so I added a bit of sugar, sesame oil and Rice Wine Vinegar to the Soy Sauce.  White and Green Onions, Seaweed, Sesame Seeds and Daikon finished the Poke.  Delicious!

AHI POKE WITH AVOCADO

APPETIZER AT HOME

I found Ahi for $6.99 per pound but you needed to buy a big slab to get that price.  I bought it and made a Ahi Poke with Avocado appetizer.  This Poke was so fresh and delicious.  Made a quick sauce using Shoyu, Honey, Wasabi and Sesame Oil.  Perfecto!

I love having a cocktail at House Without a Key at the Halekulani Hotel in Waikiki.  Love the view and indoor/outdoor seating options.  On this visit I enjoyed a crisp glass of Chardonnay along with some fresh Sashimi and Poke.  Pretty darn lucky to live in Hawaii and enjoy an evening like this!

MAKAI PLANTATION

MAKAI PLANTATION
DANIEL K INOUYE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
300 RODGERS BLVD
HONOLULU, HI. 96819
HOURS:  7AM -10PM

I really like the Makai Plantation at the Honolulu Airport.  Great place to enjoy a glass of beer, wine and snack prior to a flight.  I have had the same waitress the last two times here and she is friendly, happy and attentive.  While the prices are a bit high, the quality of food is excellent, service is fast and atmosphere is very comfortable.  I love having the fresh Poke before a flight.  Just one last taste of the Islands before I leave.

FROLIC HONOLULU POKEFEST

HONOLULU, HAWAII

I like the crew at Frolic Hawaii.  Great group of Foodies with a passion for all things food and fun.
When I learned that they were having a Pokefest I grabbed tickets online and took the family.
I purchased coupons for $50 worth of Poke.  This allowed us to get in shorter lines and pay faster.
Highly recommend buying coupons online for I think $35 and $50 increments.  We had a tough time spending all of our script and in fact ended up buying a bunch of Ice Cream and giving away some unused script to a young family.  Poke was fresh and delicious.  I liked the more natural Poke where the fish is the king.  Too many Poke shops are covering up the natural fish flavors with too much Furakake and Mayonnaise.  I am not a fan of Mayonnaise on Poke.  Take the King Crab Poke.  Delicious and sweet King Crab  and they covered it with Furakake and Mayo.  I just want to taste the crab and the Furakake was overpowering.  Funny that we all ate so much Poke that we all were craving a burger afterwards.

NCAA BASKETBALL FINALS - ISLAND STYLE PUPU'S

NCAA BASKETBALL FINAL
ISLAND STYLE PUPUS
AT HOME

Enjoyed a nice evening of basketball, friends and Island style Pupu's at home.  Pupu's are appetizers in Hawaii.  You can serve light pupu's or heavy pupu's with drinks.  This is considered heavy pupu's.  Served up with some cold beer, nice Chardonnay and bold Cabernet.  There were some pretty awesome cupcakes served for dessert.  Chocolate, Red Velvet, Peanut Butter and Vanilla from Cake Couture.  Kentucky won the game and we all won with great food and friends.
