Another great meal at Monkeypod.  This place has never disappointed and is a favorite spot when visiting friends in Ko'Olina.  Dinner on this incredible evening took three hours because we took our time enjoying appetizers while enjoying some wine and the ordering dinner over an hour later.  Dinner led to everyone sharing a few pieces of their pies and maybe a little more wine.  Our waitress Mariah was incredible.  Smiling, laughing and very knowledgable about everything on the menu including all the ingredients.  She is amazing.  Her love for her customers and job shine through her big smile and heart.

After many visits to Monkeypod Kitchen in Ko'Olina I can honestly say that this place is always good and probably one of my favorite places to eat on Oahu.  I have my "go to" list of dishes that really make this a great place to eat family style or visit for Pupu's and cocktails.  First up are the Oven Charred Brussels Sprouts ($9.95).  Yes Brussels Sprouts.  You would never think that this would be a "go to" dish but at Monkeypod they are delicious and charred to perfection.  Our table of six loved them and we ended up ordering two portions for the table.  Probably could have had three.  Next up are the Poke Tacos ($21.95).  Now these are a bit expensive but they use the freshest Ahi and the taste is delicious.  The Kauai Shrimp and Hamakua Mushroom Dim Sum ($13.95) are also made fresh and delicious.  All local fresh ingredients and you can taste the flavors.  My favorite dish here though is the Pumpkin Patch Ravioli ($13.95).  The pasta is made fresh and the flavor of the Squash is fantastic.  Everyone at the table gobbled up this dish too.  The Garlic Truffle Oil Fries ($9.95) are some of the best French Fries on the Island.  Totally addicting and you will be amazed how fast the large bowl of spuds disappears from the table.  We ordered Half Margherita and Half Proletariat Pizza ($18.95).  Again a bit expensive but it is pretty good pizza.  I like the thin crust and fact that you can taste all of the ingredients on the pizza because everything is fresh.  My Daughter loved the Saimin with Kalua Pork ($16.95).  Once again expensive for a bowl of noodles but the large portion of the Kalua Pork puts this Saimin over the top.  Our friends enjoyed a fresh fish of the day and absolutely loved it.  Don't leave Monkeypod Kitchen without ordering a piece of pie.  We had the Chocolate Pie ($8.95) and it was devoured in sixty seconds.  Also love the Strawberry Pie here.  All are good.  Our waitress who was named Mariah was very knowledgeable about the menu and could recite every ingredient in dishes we asked about plus the specials.  She was bubbly, friendly and very professional.  One of the best on the Island because she really seems to enjoy her job and care about her guests.  I was amazed how she looked people directly in the eyes and listened to their requests and questions.  Always smiling and making you feel welcome.

MONKEYPOD KITCHEN - KO'OLINA, HAWAII

HOURS:  11:30 AM - 11:00 PM DAILY

The buzz around Ko'Olina is that the Monkeypod Kitchen is the "the place" to be at Happy Hour.  Locals and tourists have been waiting for something new to excite this resort community that has been dominated by Roy's for so many years.  The Monkeypod Kitchen is located on the 10th hole of the Ko"olina golf course.  The two story restaurant is huge and features a large bar, indoor seating and a large outdoor patio that is the perfect place to enjoy cocktails and pupu's.  This place is hot and I expect it to stay hot for many years.  The food, ambiance and service are all good.  I also hear that the place really heats up at night with live music.  The Happy Hour here may just help revive Hawaii's non Happy Hour crowd.  From 3:00 to 5:30 you can get beers that normally cost $7 to $9 for $4.75.  Ocean Vodka drinks are $6.  Fu-ful tourists drinks are $8 and wine is $6 per glass.  All appetizers with exception of the Raw Bar and Poke Tacos are 50% off and Pizza's are only $9 excluding the lobster pizza.  These are rockin prices for a resort community and the food is much better than what you get at Disney's Aulani which is across the street.  I can honestly say that every single dish that we tried here was good.  Loved the Poke Tacos ($17.95)  These miniature little tacos are filled with sushi grade Ahi Tuna and topped with an avocado creme sauce. The Wonton taco shell is perfect.  The Bourgeois Pizza ($24.95) is a  Lobster Pizza.  Nice pieces of Kona lobster and a hint of truffle oil.  The Garlic Truffle Oil French Fries ($4 Happy Hour) are addicting.  Perfectly seasoned with salt and lots of garlic.  Infused with Truffle Oil that makes these one of my favorites.  The house made ketchup was good too. The Margherita Pizza ($7 Happy Hour) was also delicious.  Fresh tomatoes, basil and sauce on a thin crust just they way I like it.  The Fresh Fish Tacos ($8.50 Happy Hour) were really good.  They serve up three nice tacos filled with local fish dusted in Cajun seasoning.  Topped with cabbage, tomato salsa and avocado creme.  Loved the salsa and locally grown fresh cilantro.  The Pumpkin Patch Ravioli ($5.50 Happy Hour) was perfection.  Kiawe roasted squash in pasta with a toasted walnut sage pesto.  Full of texture and flavor.  Highly recommend this.  The Wood Roasted Chicken Wings ($7 Happy Hour) were a big hit too.  Everyone loved the flavor and heat.  The Dry Mien Noodle Dish ($6.50 Happy Hour) was a nice surprise.  Locally made saimin noodles with broccoli, bean sprouts, onion and fresh cilantro.  Served with a thai chili sauce.  Ended the meal with a slice of the house made Strawberry Pie ($4 Happy Hour).  This is one of the best pieces of pie I have ever had on Oahu.  Almost like a New York Cheesecake.  YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!  Highly recommend the Monkeypod Kitchen and I cannot wait to get my little fat butt back over there soon.
