JOHNNY ROCKETS ABOARD THE INDEPENDENCE OF THE SEAS

JOHNNY ROCKETS
INDEPENDENCE OF THE SEAS

Was not expecting a Johnny Rockets onboard the Independence of the Seas.  Just think you can eat burgers and fries everyday of the cruise. Well we stopped in only one time because we had a coupon to dine free.  Normally there is a $5 cover charge to dine here.  Think of that.  Just $5 for all the burgers, hot dogs and fries you can eat in one sitting.  From the looks of some of the tables around us, some people were enjoying "several" burgers and mounds of fries and onion rings.  Burgers are good here.  Much better than the dried out and tasteless patties you get at the Windjammer buffet.  Johnny Rockets was a real treat after eating that road kill.  This place rocks with 50's music and a young staff that sings and dances.  Don't go here if you want quiet time.  From the time you walk in and are greeted by the entire staff until the entire staff says goodbye when you leave, there will always be action.

IN N' OUT BURGER

IN N' OUT BURGER
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

We made a few stops to In N' Out Burger while in Los Angeles.  How many I cannot divulge.  This trip was late into the night.  The burgers were smuggled into my hotel room and I was forced to consume one by my wife. These are absolutely the best $2 burgers on the planet.

MERRIMANS - KUKUI' ULA VILLAGE

MERRIMAN'S DOWNSTAIRS
KUKUI' ULA VILLAGE
KOLA, KAUAI

Merriman's Downstairs is a nice little place to have lunch on Kauai.  The more upscale restaurant is upstairs but not open for lunch.  At Merriman's Downstairs, you order at the counter and the wait staff brings the food out to your table.  We found the staff to be very friendly and the food to come out very quickly.  We ordered a Sausage Pizza.  Nice thin crust, good sauce and tasty large pieces of sausage.  Good pizza but just way too much cheese for my taste.  The pie was overloaded with cheese.  The Tomato Jalapeno Soup was good but kind of like eating melted cheese.  The fresh chips and salsa were excellent.  I saw a lot of fish tacos being sold plus the burgers.  This is a nice little spot to enjoy lunch on Kauai.

JOLLIBEE

JOLLIBEE
WAIPAHU, HAWAII

Jollibee is an institution in the Philippines.  They are the    Mc Donalds of the Philippines with outlets in every mall and neighborhood.  When we heard that they had opened a Jollibee in America I was shocked.  Even more surprised to learn they opened in Waipahu, Hawaii.  Waipahu has a large Filipino community so this was a perfect choice in my mind.  The lines the first couple of weeks were huge we were told.  Basically could not get parking or in the place without a very long wait.  The crowds are smaller now but the place still has a line at all hours.  I tried the Cheeseburger with Tomato and Lettuce ($1.75).  The cheese was not melted.  Just placed on top of the burger.  The burger was salty and really tasteless.  I would not eat another one.  The Fried Chicken however is a huge winner.  We ordered Two Pieces of Chicken ($3.99). We received two large pieces cooked crispy and to perfection.  Crunchy yet moist in the middle with great taste.  The gravy that is served with the chicken is addicting.  Once you dip the chicken in the gravy, you will be hooked.  My Wife loves the Palabok ($4.95).  Noodles topped with special sauce, shrimp, pork rinds and boiled egg.  I didn't try this dish but it is quite popular.  The menu at Jollibee is pretty simple.  Burgers, Spaghetti and Fried Chicken.  I would go back tomorrow for the Fried Chicken. http://www.jollibeeusa.com/
