KONA BREWING COMPANY - KOKO MARINA

KONA BREWING COMPANY
KOKO MARINA
HAWAII KAI, HAWAII

We have lived in East Honolulu for four years now.  Why we have never dined at the Kona Brewing Company is beyond me.  The restaurant is perched on a great corner lot overlooking Koko Marina in Hawaii Kai.  On a day like today, the views are simply beautiful.  The beauty of the water and the mountains make you feel really lucky to live in Hawaii.  We were greeted by two young hostess and quickly seated on the covered patio overlooking the Marina.  The place was pretty busy.  Pizza, Fish Tacos, Salads, Burgers and Fresh Fish were going by our table on trays and being served to happy customers who were also sampling some of the house crafted beers. I ordered a small Greek Salad ($9).  The salad included Romaine Lettuce, Tomato, Cucumber, Olives,  Onion and Feta Cheese.  Served with a nice Balsamic Dressing.  Not a bad salad but I think $9 was a bit to expensive.  I ordered a 10" Wild Mushroom Pizza for the table ($18). The description on the menu listed Mushrooms, Mozzarella Cheese, Olive Oil, Roasted Garlic, Red Onions and Roasted Red Peppers.  The pizza we received was covered in Feta Cheese and contained no tomato sauce.  The cheese was totally overpowering.  I could not eat one slice.  The Roasted Garlic was good but was just thrown on the pizza in whole cloves.  The mushrooms were non existent.  At over $5 per slice for this pizza it was a huge disappointment.  Should of asked for my money back.  $18 down the drain and we left the entire pizza on the table less a few bites and scrapings of the toppings.  My daughter enjoyed the Kids Meal Pigs in a Blanket ($7).  Two small hot dogs wrapped in pizza dough and served with some fresh fruit.  No complaints.  The Ahi Salad ($16) was a large plate of greens topped with a perfectly cooked rare Ahi Tuna that was topped with sesame seeds and a really good dressing.  This was a very good piece of fish.  Glad my wife allowed me to eat a few bites.  I will go back here soon.  There are a lot of good things on the menu and I want to give this place another chance.  Just will stay way clear of the Wild Mushroom Pizza with no mushrooms and Feta Cheese.  NOTE:  COULD NOT POST PHOTOS BECAUSE THE RED CANOPY ABOVE MADE ALL OF THE PHOTOS RED.

LA TOUR CAFE

LA TOUR CAFE
HONOLULU, HAWAII

We have been driving by La Tour Cafe for months.  It looks like a very large restaurant from Nimitz Highway.  After a visit to Costco next door, we found a parking spot and went on in.  Wow...not what I was expecting.  La Tour Cafe is a small restaurant with a take-out counter.  There are around 12 tables, a small take-out deli section and a flat screen t.v.  No frills here.  We approached the counter to find a limited menu which is good.  They serve a few soups, salads, Tartines, Panini's, Sandwiches and Flat Bread Pizzas.  I tried The Italian Sandwich ($7.50).  Thin slices of salami, sopressata, mortadella and proschiutto with Harvarti on French Egg Bread.  Served with a house salad and home made pickles.  The bread was the star of this sandwich.  So fresh and light and crunchy.  Liked the meats, italian sauce and pickles.  This was good.  The Meatball Banh Mi Sandwich ($7.50) was a Vietnamese style sandwich with chicken meatballs, pickled carrots and fresh cilantro served on a crunch French Baquette.  Again, the bread was the star.  So fresh and perfect texture and crunch.  I thought the meatballs were tasteless, but my better half loved the sandwich and wants to go back again for another.  The Mac and Cheese ($4) was a huge hit with Keli.  Yummy, great, cheesy and awesome were some of her comments.  I have heard that the burgers are good here.  The La Tour Burger ($8.50) comes with Wagyu Beef, caramelized onions, salsa verde with Havarti.  Can't wait to try this one after my diet.  While at the counter the cashier recommended the Macaroons for which the restaurant is known for.  We tried a chocolate and a coffee.  Not bad, but don't think I would order one again.

JERRY'S RESTAURANT AND DELI - MARINA DEL REY

JERRY'S RESTAURANT AND DELI
MARINA DEL REY, CALIFORNIA

My Dad's wife Heide showed us a menu from Jerry's and I just had to make a visit.  I looked over the huge menu that has everything you can imagine served up 24 hours a day.  I wanted to go for breakfast, for lunch and even dinner.  We had to squeeze our visit in and it turned out to be for breakfast.  Oh how I wish it could have been lunch.  The sandwiches on Jerry's menu are like the ones you get at Carnegie or Stage Deli in New York.  This is the real deal New York type Deli.  Huge sandwiches, soups, bagels, salads, burgers, fish and even Mexican food.  Jerry's has something for everyone.  The menu is awesome.  I tried the Machaca Burrito ($12) and split it with my wife.  The burrito was filled with shredded beef, eggs, potato, pepper and topped with pico de gallo and served with rice, beans, guacamole and salsa.  This was great!  Filled up two people with not problem.  Heide had the Cheese Blintzes ($11).  Three huge cheesed filled crepe type things served with a large bowl of fresh fruit.  Dad enjoyed a huge plate of thickly sliced ham, eggs and potatoes.  He did not put a dent in the plate and had enough to take home for the neighbors.  Keli had the dollar size pancakes and sausage.
I really liked Jerry's and hope to return again and again.
