TACOS IN PITTSBURGH
We had tickets to a concert in Pittsburgh and it was abruptly cancelled due to a severe thunderstorm in the area. The evening turned out to be perfect with no rain or wind. Just a perfect summer day in the 80's. We ended up at an Art Festival close to our hotel and just walked around a bit. I saw a Taco stand amongst a line up of food stalls and jumped in line to try them. I picked my meats and then was handed a plate and shown to the Salsa Bar which was filled Salsa's, Cilantro, Cheese, Peppers, Onions, Pico de Gallo, Limes, and Crema. I added them to the Tacos and we found a shared table with other people to enjoy them. Damn these were good Tacos. Some of the best Street Tacos ever and far better than anything you can find in Hawaii. So good in fact I was craving them the next day. Don't know the name of the Taco restaurant or who they are, but they have my vote for Best Tacos in Pittsburgh.

Put in another 5 hours work on Saturday and came home to these delicious Carne Asada Street Tacos. Tastes as good as Mexico! Low carb Ala Madre low carb Corn Tortillas of course.

Aloha Mamacita started as a Food Truck and then graduated to brick an mortar in Waipahu. They now have a location in the Nimitz Business Center near Best Buy and Home Depot.
The location is very difficult to find and in fact I was going to throw in the towel and leave the Business Center when my Wife looked on the map and found that the restaurant was located in THE BACK of Nimitz Business Center. We went to the back and still could not find it until we saw a mini sign next to a Korean Church. Believe me this is one of the strangest places I have seen in Honolulu. You walk from and industrial complex into a dark quasi Japanese Garden with a Koi Pond and in the corner is a small door that is Aloha Mamacita. We arrived to a small line with one of the workers on the phone giving directions on how to find the place. I too called when we were looking around but the line was always busy. Probably with more people calling for directions. The menu is small and most every item contains Birria which is a marinated beef. The Birria Tacos with Consomme ($15) was my favorite. Three Tacos served with a delicious consommé that that has a nice kick of spice on the back end. I liked the balance of cheese and meat. The Tacos had a nice crunch and were not soggy. The Onions and Cilantro added more flavor. These were probably the best Birria Tacos I have tried in Hawaii. The Street Tacos ($3 each) were tiny and contained the Birria meat less the cheese. Also served with Consomme. Go for the Birria Tacos and skip the Street Tacos. The Birria Bomb Bites ($9) are balls of the Birria Meat and Cheese with more Consomme. These are really heavy and filling. After eating the Birria Taco I could only eat one of the Bites. Probably would not order these again and stick with the Birria Tacos. Once you can find Aloha Mamacita you will enjoy some really good Birria Tacos.

Ventured out under COVID-19 to find The Surfing Pig busy with customers. Our temperatures were taken before being seating along with contact tracing info on our group. We were socially distanced to an area where just the three of us sat. Service was excellent with our table being served by the bartender. I had the Street Tacos ($19) which I thought were overpriced and tasteless. The Fish Taco was all batter and the batter was soggy and not crunchy. The Kalua Pork Taco was dry and pretty tasteless. Cannot believe this is Award Winning Pork. The Shrimp Taco was probably best of the three but only after I covered it in their homemade Chipotle Sauce which is good. My Daughter enjoyed the Loco Moco ($18.50) which she ordered because the menu said it was made with Sticky Rice. The rice was regular rice so this was a bit of a disappointment. The Burger Patty however had good flavor and she liked it. My Wife enjoyed the Porchetta Salad ($12) which she said lacked Porchetta. While the food did not wow us we were happy with the service and even happier to be out supporting local restaurants during these messed up times.
