I have not been to Fairwood Drive Inn & Pho 27 for over a decade. Remember it as a fairly nice Vietnamese restaurant. Decided to walk in after a dentist appointment at the Kaimuki Shopping Center and was kinda shocked to see how it had changed. It was very bright, open, bland and confusing. Is this a Chinese Restaurant? Vietnamese? Local? Looking at the menu there was Cheeseburgers, Pho, Spring Rolls, BBQ Mixed Plates, and Chow Mein. A lot to take in so I asked if they had Banh Mi Sandwiches. The lady behind the counter didn't seem to speak good English but she nodded yes. What kind I asked and her answer I could not understand. I asked again and heard "Chicken". I then asked if it were a Banh Mi with Liver Pate and Vegetables and she said "yes, Chicken". I ordered the Chicken Banh Mi and asked for extra veggies. While it did not have Liver Pate and very little veggies, I did like the fresh toasted Roll and flavor of the Chicken. The veggies were tasteless and not marinated like the ones at Bale and other places. I would also order my next Banh Mi here with no mayo as this one was loaded with mayonnaise.
