DINNER AT HOME

I was making a Burrito using a low carb Mission Tortilla and it was too large to wrap up.  Decided to just eat it like a Taco.  My Drewitto included Spicy Refried Beans, Shredded Chicken, Cheese, Guacamole, Pico de Gallo, Sour Cream and Hot Sauce.  Delicious!

I have fond memories of visiting Olvera Street when I was a young boy.  The place seemed huge back then and filled with the colors and smells of Mexico.  The last time I was here was before my Dad passed away and we found the best Taquitos and Chips and Salsa.  We could not find that old place on this visit and ended up at El Rancho Grande.  What I will remember the most about this place is the service by a man that may have been the owner.  He was warm, gracious and even brought a free plate of Mexican Rice out for my Daughter.  The Taquitos were good.  I was surprised that they used Ground Beef for the Tacos.  I am a fan of Shredded Beef but these tasted ok.  The Chicken Tostada was huge and filling.

When I saw Burger King advertising their new Tacos for $1, I just had to find them in Hawaii.  I did find them in Honolulu but the price here was $1.39.  My first thought was to compare them to the Jack in the Box Tacos which for some reason I love.  The Burger King Taco was good and maybe better than Jack.  I went back a second time and the Tacos were even better tasting.

Picked up the Calle Sabor Carne Asada at Sam's Club for around $14.  Nice cuts of beef and pretty good marinade but we think the Baily's Carne Asada has a bit better flavor.  This was good though and I would not hesitate to buy it again.  The key to a great Carne Asada Taco (and ours are just as good as any restaurant in Honolulu) is fresh Guacamole and Pico de Gallo.  Plus a really good Salsa or Hot Sauce and fresh Cilantro and Chopped White Onion.  The Tortillas are also important.  We use White Corn Tortillas and cook them on a flattop so they crisp up just a bit.  These tacos were delicious.  Entire family loves them!
